yes but the fans that have been following the tics since adam was a lad and know what weve been through realise all whats been said is probably true, but…………….some of the premiership bandwagon jumpers dont get this and think we can win the title, carling cup,f.a cup and champions league because the premiership is all they know i think the term is ideas above our station !
4 March 2011 at 10:38 pm #61277Bit pedantic but if we have already played in the Premier League, how can the Championship be our pinnacle?:geek:
I meant do you think that the Championship is the highest we can feasibly compete in ( money wise ) from now on !

I know
4 March 2011 at 11:55 pm #61286I think our pinnacle could well be a 10th place finish in the Premier League and a Carling Cup final appearance
I think he might have meant ‘Our Level’, rather than pinnacle.
I see our level as a fair to middling Championship club.[/quote]
We deserve to be in the Premier League and have had by far the most exciting journey there out of any club currently in the league.Just because we’re the new kids on the block doesn’t make us any different to any-other club. I’m almost certain we’ll go down this season, and on terms of revenue, stadium capacity and support we’ll be right at home. Next season will be one to remember for Wigan Athletic!

5 March 2011 at 1:07 am #61288I was always convinced that’s what Bolton did when they were in their yo-yo days:one season in the Premier League attracting crowds for novelty value/top players on show, next season Championship (or whatever it was called) with success and getting them through the gates that way.
Can be recycled quite a number of times.
The problem we have is that the novelty value of seeing top Premiership players has gone. Replace with a season of winning and Roberto is your Dad’s brother.
With the latest financial revelations, I’m not entirely sure, but it’s possible that Roberto was given a brief, and is actually doing a good job………
….if you get my drift?
We stand to benefit more as a club in the long run, if we go down, rather than stay up.
5 March 2011 at 2:55 pm #61310I’ve been a manager since my early 20’s and one thing I was taught by some wily owd yeds and still put into practice, is that you set your sights/ goals as high as you can. Invariably you will fail sometimes, but what you achieve will in the main be quite satisfying. Set mediocre goals and then fail, will probably lead to heartbreak.
If big Dave had seen his beloved team being a mid Championship team at best all them years ago, then we may now be on our way to a tricky away game at Exeter today or have a tough derby match at home to Bury.
I honestly still believe that Big Dave’s aspirations of seeing Latics in Europe [in his lifetime] is a reality.
The same people who laugh at this statement, are probably the ones that laughed at Whelan when he said he wanted a premiership football in Wigan.
I don’t particularly want all the dark boys to agree with me, its just how I feel inside.
No matter how negative people get on here, it won’t change my view, nor will it change it if we get relegated. So there!! :snooty:From Matlock to ManU
What a journey!5 March 2011 at 2:58 pm #61312To be honest over the years ive thought how far would we go what we may achieve. When i first became a Latics nut the pinnacle was to become a football league club i suppose, then it would be to play at Wembley and win a trophy. When this was achieved the pinnacle would have been to play in the top league and maybe play in a major cup final. What im saying is that this club has reached so many pinnacles in the past i dont doubt that for one minute we will better our recent record someday. Our past is what makes Wigan Athletic the greatest, our ability to succeed against the odds. I dont think any one of us can say for sure that we have hit the highest point in our history coz after over 40 yrs as a supporter nothing this club does anymore suprises me. ;)
