Come on Adam, you and me are not far off being good enough for some of the countries the lower league players are being picked for.
I suppose Darikwa will be honoured to be picked for Zimbabwe for example, and Assgard for Norways kids, but should these fixtures really play such havoc with our League system?
Morcambes players for the next internation break are going off to play for Jamaica, Iceland U21’s and Northern Ireland U21’s, its bloody ridiculous.I’ve always been country above club. Personally I think the whole league system should stop.
I do however think they play too many stupid and meaningless friendlies though.
If the players called up have featured in more than 50% of your league fixtures, then you could consider them as first teamers. When the likes of a 3rd choice goalkeeper gets called up for some random U21 game and a club uses the rule to get a game called off because they have a couple of injuries, it becomes beyond a joke.
