Just wondering, would love to go if the price was right.
11 September 2013 at 12:12 pm #120921You can get return flights now for £120, how cheap do you want it.
Believe it or not, Charter flights are not cheaper than scheduled!!!!
FA Cup Winners 2013, sounds good that
11 September 2013 at 2:26 pm #120926My friend has just been to Moscow, took him 6 weeks to sort his visa. He had to get an INVITATION from the hotel he was staying at in order to apply for one. That cost him £70.00. He said unless you can speak Russian don’t even think of going on your own. I am hoping someone? will arrange an organised trip with a group visa the same as you have when you go to Russia on a cruise. 14 hours on a train!!! would LOVE IT ;)
11 September 2013 at 7:28 pm #120934Sounds like my sort of hell, 14hrs on a Russian train
On a 14hr Russian train journey, statistics state 1 person is likely to be robbed at knifepoint, 1 person is likely to be robbed by a drug user, 1 person is going to be buggered forecably. It’s not known as the Purple Aki Express for nothing you know ;)
11 September 2013 at 8:23 pm #120936think I might go fishing somewhere, not Russia though.

Someone really ought to tell that 1 person not to go.

11 September 2013 at 10:26 pm #120941Its O.K. I’ve seen the film Fiddler On The Roof ;)
12 September 2013 at 12:47 am #120942The price to charter the same aeroplane as the one we are using to fly to Maribor(926 miles) was nearly double the cost to fly direct to Kazan (2029 miles), which if you compare the distance is not bad, but would still have made a day return flight including air duty etc. well over the £600 mark.
The hidden charges for the Maribor trip off the top of my head are £53.60, airport charge and government taxes, the cost for the same to Kazan was about £75 when I priced it.
Add to that the visa cost and travelling times and it become prohibitive.
I did go through the motions but lets be honest how many would have shelled out nearly £800 to go, I am aware that the day trip to Maribor is costly but at least it can be paid in 3 stages and we have nearly three months to do so.
You all better get used to it, following “Big European Clubs” like little Wigan isn’t going to be cheap.
edit
Just taking a look at sport options web site, man City fans are being charged £560 for a day trip for their game in Moscow, Kazan is nearly 500 miles further into Russia.

I have always wanted to travel on the Trans Siberian Express. Moscow to Kazan is the nearest thing to it. Traveling across the Russian Steppes by train… What an adventure and something to tell the Grand Kids.
Wish I had the guts to do it on my own :(12 September 2013 at 1:17 pm #120945You’ll be alright as long as it’s you doing the robbing and the buggering :cheer:
12 September 2013 at 8:08 pm #120964Once spent 14 months living in Moscow, definitely a case of watch out for yourself, no one else does. Russian work colleague (male, 30s) of mine out on a car trip to the Greater Moscow region for the weekend once took 14 hours to get back home thanks to traffic and the small matter of having left behind his RIFLE somewhere (requiring about turn), notwithstanding the fact he was in a convey /party of 3 cars …. disguised policeman, bandits, guerilla’s ….. you name it…you never know who may step out, he said. FORGET IT !
If no plane on arrival at Moscow airport, i was always under strict company orders not to accept taxi ride at airport (2/3 corrupt, illegal), but call PA and await reserved taxi (all day if necessary).
At best you get shafted, and the very worst, your throat slit !
not forgetting the fact that in winter its feckin’ freezing and snowbound …. a winter wonderland it’s not, depressing it is.
if you choose to chance fate, Moscow an interesting place to visit …. all above apply, and the coppers are as bent as deck (passport always !!!)
Best of luck ….
12 September 2013 at 10:04 pm #120975CPJ you must be fluent in the language? How about putting yourself forward as a courier if someone arranges a trip? ;)
14 September 2013 at 5:22 pm #121016can’t speak a word other than ‘i don’t understand russian, i’m english’ (down to a fine art) – comes in very handy when stopped by PC plod for speeding – ignorance sometimes bliss !
pay me a singapore (based) – russia air fare, double money for local courier services rendered, and i’ll think about it (not!)
