I was watching the Winter Olympics the other night and was amused by the name of the German skier, Andreas Wank. I was even more amused by the BBC commentators pronunciation, Vonk, obviously to avoid embarrassment. They can sometimes get around it like they do with Kanu, whose real name is Nwankwo Kanu, by simply calling him Kanu. I then remembered a game we played in 1978 or 1979 against Torquay where they brought on a sub called Wayne Wanklyn.
I was wondering if anyone knew of any more famous w*nkers?

There’s a bird plays volleyball for University of California called Mia Jerkov.
From a football viewpoint, my favourite all-time German player wsa Stefan Kuntz.

There was a chap called Ufarte who played for Spain in the 1966 World Cup.
I’m old enough to remember these things.
If we are moving away from w.nkers specifically, there was the lad at Celtic called Raphael Scheidt to which the fans sang: “You’re Scheidt… and you know you are!”
And there must have been a German called Fuchs, somewhere along the line :)
Surely the best sporting name of all was the tennis player Berndt Haas and the most innapropriate name was the dirtiest hardest hatchet man that ever walked on a football field, his name Gentile
I also heard a rumour that Marlon King’s father is Spanish and wanted to call his son Juan.
