8 December 2017 at 6:20 pm #164004I truly believe that we will never achieve whilst we are brainwashed into this fallacy that foreign is best. Late 70s and early 80s we owned the old European Cup. Utd until a few years ago played scintillating attacking football now even they have followed the trend but are sometimes terrible to watch. The English game has gone at present and ourselves are only too aware of this slow passing negative game the continentals prefer. Until we revert back to being English and playing like the English we will always fail.
Not a bad theory until you consider that in the halcyon days of the 1970’s England failed to qualify for 2 successive World Cups. The 82 World Cup was a flop as well
They didn’t qualify for 1972, 1976 or 1984 Euro’s either & did garbage in the ones they did qualify for8 December 2017 at 10:07 pm #164008Five teams full of foreign players which are doing nothing for the national team.
Full of foreign players which are doing nothing for the national team – apart from:
Drinkwater
Cahill
Alexander-Arnold
Milner
Henderson
Oxlade-Chamberlain
Sturridge
Clyne
Gomez
Rose
Winks
Alli
Kane
Dier
Walker
Delph
Stirling
Smalling
Young
Lingard
Rashford
Jones[/quote]
Of which only Kane, Ali and perhaps Rashford would have a prayer of a chance of getting into any of the other Top Ten National teams in the world.
The PL may be a strong well watched league, but it is not because of the home grown talent at the moment.PS. I would of been too embarrassed to have put some of them names on that list of yours, please amend it before too many see it.

The bloody Yanks embarrassed us once. At least we were once good to watch unlike today when its painful. I doubt I will ever enjoy the modern game but at least now Liverpool,City appear to be experimenting and using more than one striker.
8 December 2017 at 11:34 pm #164010Thy play 433 like most sides but essentially its 1 striker.

To be fair Nunny we should of won it at Italia 90, the woodwork saved Germany if I remember correctly and Gazza would of had a field day facing Argentina in the final.
Then again he did pick up a booking in the semi.
9 December 2017 at 12:03 am #164012Here is my take on Standishwalkers England greats. Feel free to pass your own judgement on the multi millionaire superstars.
Drinkwater… Overrated
Cahill… Donkey
Alexander-Arnold… Good prospect
Milner… Past it
Henderson… Useless
Oxlade-Chamberlain… Worse than useless
Sturridge… Injured
Clyne… Average
Gomez… Good prospect
Rose… Alright, but no better than Bainsy
Winks… Good prospect
Alli… Excellent
Kane… Only world class player here
Dier… Spelt wrong, should be Dire
Walker… Better winger than defender
Delph… Theres a better one in Eccleston
Stirling… Good for City, shit for England
Smalling… Average, but better than Cahill
Young… Hot and cold
Lingard… Too lightweight
Rashford… Excellent prospect
Jones… Better than Cahill but always looks unfit9 December 2017 at 12:54 am #164013Fair reflection that horc, and having dove the delph at Eccleston I concur.
9 December 2017 at 1:09 am #164014I think when the draw is made other countries must punch the air if they have drawn England in their group.
We are a second or third rate football nation.
Thanks for that Sky, Premier League and FA.
Still top of the tattoo, Bart Simpson lookalike and hair cut league though.9 December 2017 at 1:58 am #16401666 apart tilders, when have we ever been any good really. That’s exactly my point Snowy, our league is the envy of the world yet at international level apart from 66 we have only got a heroic failure in 90 to gloat over. Not really good enough for a nation that eats, breathes and sleeps football.

I was merely pointing out to your mate Donny that his comment that the five English teams to qualify for the knockout stages of the Champions League were full of foreign players with no relevance to the England national team was inaccurate.
All of those players above either currently feature in, or have featured in the England national team.
Plus, even though only a few of them played in last week’s Champions League games, all of them are regulars in their club’s first team squad this season.
As for your comment that only a couple would get into the top ten national team, you’re probably right – and that’s why England are ranked 12th.
Although Belgium are 5th and Poland are 6th – and surely you’re not telling me they have better squads when they have players like Chadli from West Brom and Szczesny playing for them?

Fair enough. Poland at 6th in the rankings is a bit baffling, but Belgiums ranking is probably mainly due to their manager??

Quite possiblyAnd no matter how they get on, I think Belgium will play with ‘incredible style and focus’
12 December 2017 at 9:27 pm #164124To be fair, Marteenez and Jones have landed on their feet. A squad including the likes of Lukaku, Hazard, De Bruyne etc has to be looking at the semis at least.
It would be a wonderful ‘moment’ if Bob and his boys won it. Little Wigan link, yet again.
