Your spot on about the corners. For once we looked dangerous when Luke hit the corners right into the mixer. Definitely beats tippy tappy, take three passes from a corner then pass backwards. On some occasions from corners we’ve managed to pass back as far as Sam Tickle. We’ve also wasted free kicks in the same manner.
SM must have had an epiphany moment after reading some of our posts
Well, keep reading Shaun; just because we sit in the stands doesn’t mean that our observations & ideas aren’t valid.
Only time will tell if he can maintain the form to a point. If we play like Rovers and Brum we’ll do ok but if we revert to his possession style slow build up then launch it to the widemen were f*cked.
Look, I want him to do well but he needed to try something else and now it looks like the pennies dropped.
There’s an old saying it’s “Horses for courses” which means play to your players strengths don’t try to make them do what doesn’t suit.
Do we want Weir sat in the middle passing left right back ? No we want him driving forward drawing players making space.
Utter waste of time and pointless tippy tappy football at L1 level, direct in your face front foot football is the way forward.
No one would complain if we played like Saturday and lost as long as we go down trying giving it a go it’s the only thing we all wanna see

I only watched the highlights of the game (the extended highlights that were posted on here). From what I saw, there did seem to be more urgency & eagerness to get forward & it was very good to see.
I do believe this is the style of play Maloney has wanted to adopt all along week in week out. We did see “glimpses” of that last season & on Saturday. But some of the players either don’t have the capability (with all due respect to them) &/or the confidence to go with that capability.
2 players who come to mind are Adeeko & S. Smith. I’m not saying they’re no good, but neither look to go forward or seem too scared to do so. From what I saw of Weir on the highlights plus the comments from fans on various social media, he is the type of player we’ve needed in order to push us forward as opposed to the safe, sideways passing of the 2 I mention above. Hopefully, he can be some kind of influence for Adeeko & Smith, especially as their place in the starting 11 might no longer be guaranteed. Not forgetting we have François to return from injury. So those 2 again might find themselves right down the pecking order.
I also said a couple of weeks back when some were wanting this “hardman” in midfield. We didn’t necessarily need a Bremner or Keane type who just put in tackles, break players legs & that’s all they can do. Gerrard wasn’t someone I’d consider hard. But he had the ability to break up play & drive forward.
What I want to add finally is that although we played well on Saturday & we’re all chuffed after the win, we aren’t going to perform like this every week. It’s impossible to do so. There will be other “Reading’s” on the horizon. There’ll be other “Crawley’s.” What I’m getting at is that we are still a work in progress. It will take a couple of years but I believe we are slooooowly getting there.
It’s definitely work in progress but the problem is, how many times do we say this ? It’s yearly re-building a squad every transfer window.
Personally I like S.Smith I think he’s always putting himself about making players rush on the ball pressing which is always an thankless task.
I can see him slotting in at right back as the season goes but Adeeko, I’m afraid he’s going to struggle to get back in.
The key word is consistency, we need at times to get ugly and grind results out. The moving the ball back to front was encouraging along with corners been whipped which lead to two goals.
For me Weir was a breath of fresh air, that missing link from defenders to been on the front foot. You can tell he’s been coached very well.
I see Huddlestones fooked off and dumped us for money. I’d like to be the first to say thanks for fook all good ridence.
I always had a feeling we were nothing more than a stop gap while his CVs were still been flung around like sh*t off a shovel.
