If usual standards is selling thousands of seats en-masse to a corporate then I feel for you. Uncle Dave will be no more soon, and how will you survive then with little or no income, huge expenditure and thousands of empty seats?

Sounds like good business to me – Its just a bigger version of “3 for £12”, “2 for £20” or “BOGOF”, which I seem to remember being offered.

Maybe they should follow the lead of the blue third and give them away – it even appears freebies were around for the West Ham game.
We survived without whelan before and will survive when he as gone, you lot nearly went out of business when you were top of your game, so god only knows what would happen to you if you slumped down the leagues, (which cant happen no relegation in the pointless league) and without having your own ground, I think you should be more worried esp if our new owners didnt give a damn about a very small northern sport.

(No doubt the Mods will come along soon and erase all reference to the Latics ever having given out free tickets)

On the field, usual standards are still there – we won 38-6 yesterday to hit the top of the league, just in case you missed it.

And about 3,000 made the trip to London.

So London Crusaders, or whatever they’re called this season, only had 1200 of their own fans turn up to see them play the biggest Rugby League team in the world ?

Yes. Its sad. Just like only 12,000 home fans turning up to watch Wigan play the worlds most famous football team. Or 10,000 turning out to watch them play the then current champions last August.

Has anyone asked if London deserves Super League Rugby yet ?

If you are asking me then the answer is “No”. But despite their low crowds, they acquire enough points on the pitch to be above more established sides. I know there’s no promotion & relegation, but a side who finishes half-way up the league (in any sport) will not be jettisoned just because their crowds are p1$$ poor.

seem to have hit a nerve Mutty all very good offers which have seen a 50% rise in season tickets and as we are on the subject explain the 6 games for £30 offer from the World runner ups im which i have heard that free tickets were given for that match as well

Not been on this site for 5 years and still theres arguments over Rugby an Latics. Its all the same old shite about crowds too. Get over it!

We average about the same, we both give free tickets out to big matches. end of.

The 3000 making the trip to London comment made me laugh though, your one and only trip to London for the season, well done!

Rugby have cheaper tickets, play less home matches & have a far better chance of winning most games (I know that shouldnt be an excuse but to a fair weather fan given the choice ofwatching Latics get drubbed 6-0 by Chelsea or watching Wiggun murder someone 70-0, they’ll watch Rugby). If both clubs had the exact same circmustances (i.e 12 games a season at £17 per match) then maybe we could argue, but they dont, so theres no point

(Breathes hugh sigh of relief now thats off my chest)

You know it may just be true that they have on average larger supporters than us but maybe it’s because the bigger ones can feel reasonably secure in the knowledge that morons such as some of you lot won’t be there to make them feel unwelcome.
Cracking opening post, I hope to god she doesn’t look on this forum.

So, 13,000 home fans turn up to watch a minority sport against a pit village side.

Remind me how many home fans turned up to watch you play Blackpool, Chelsea, Arsenal, Man City & Man Utd last year.

World’s most popular sport (except in Wigan).

Yes mate, but it helps that you’ve started winning the odd game, doesn’t? Very easy to start turning up watching when the team’s doing well.

I suggest you have a look at the size of the crowds in late 2006 Griff – in what was unquestionably the clubs’s darkest hour since the switch to summer rugby:

                          23 Jun 06 – Warrington (16103)
                          7 Jul 06 – Wakefield (13686)
                          14 Jul 06 – Salford (13630)
                          4 Aug 06 – Catalan (12647)
                          18 Aug 06 -Huddersfield (14092)
                          1 Sep 06 – Bradford (15830)
                          15 Sep 06 – Hull (16554)

Now, call me a cynic, but these crowds increased significantly from early in the season, and over the last 5 years have stayed pretty constant. The increase in crowds also co-incided with DW’s decision to massively hike the price of attending a premiership game in Wigan after your hugely successful 1st season.

I put it to you that your missing fans from 2005 had been alienated by DW and have never come back.

                          #68595

Darkest hour ? How do you explain this then ?

                          http://wigan.rlfans.com/fusion_pages/in … age_id=152

                          7,216 against Huddersfield/Sheffield ?
                          8,268 v Halifax ?

Ive never seen sub 8k crowds at the DW for a football game in the top tier of the sport.

Looks like McGoose has got some explaining to do as to where 5000 – 6000 extra ” home ” fans have come from since they started winning stuff again :?

Its a shame that Wigan RL cannot be relegated then we’d see what their true support is like.

Oh sorry they did & they struggled to pull in 3000 many weeks :?

Not so Ancient & Loyal then really. I doubt if Wigan Athletic got relegated theyd get crowds of 3000 but then our motto is ” Progress With Unity ” not ” Ancient and Loyal* ”

                          *Except when relegated

Finally 13000 home fans isnt true as it assumes 1. they all turn up & due to the knock down price of season tickets many dont & 2. they are from Wigan, when around 40% are not, they are tourists enticed in by blanket North West TV advertising. This is a fact stated by your own club & freely available on your club’s website. Divide this 13k by 60% and you left with just under 8000 Wiganers.

At least that solves the problem of where all the gloryhunting fans have come from & its not Wigan

So EVEN though youve won the league & are reigning champions & EVEN though you are top of the league & EVEN though you have gone on an unprecedented advertising campaign, spending anything up to £100k on TV advertising to keep up with your struggling neighbours, who have still maintained a decent average despite several years languishing in the bottom half of the table and every home game being shown in nearly every pub in the town for free, you still cant attract more than 8000 Wiganers to watch your pointless, parochial sport.

                          8-)
