It is totally irrelevent that the youth team lost or not.

So much to put you right on in your post, if only I could be arsed, but more and more these days I find I cannot.

I’ll stick to this one, however. I’d venture to suggest that it’s not irrelevant to the kids in the youth team that they lost, some of whom may well browse this forum. But you keep on making a tit out of them if it makes you feel big and better.
you total moron, the irrelevence, is in the context of my post and you fucking know what i meant, the loss does matter to those kids and this is the second time you have made an accusation I have had a dig at them, and I take exception with that,
well mr know it all have a read back at everything I have said, the only people I take issue with is martinez and those who support him blindly him on message boards with no rhyme or reason.
Seriously, I’m really not arsed anyway and certainly not with someone who chooses to call me a moron.

When I said earlier that work was more interesting than you I meant it. I don’t agree with you, probably never will and can’t be arsed arguing with you anymore. If you seriously think that the black and white views I put on here are the sum total of my thoughts on Wigan then there’s only one total moron knocking around here. I have some proper good debates off this forum with both sides of the dark/light spectrum. This is playground stuff compared to that.

For the past few seasons however, it’s been used as the next step up from the Youth Team, hence why it’s made up in the most part with lads in their teens or early twenties. The odd first teamer gets a game when coming back from injury, but other than that, it’s a bunch of kids.

The object of the Development Squad is not to win games, it’s to develop players (it’s why the name was changed from Reserve to Development, and hence why the players are actively encouraged to go out on loan to get first team football). Yes, they play competitive matches – often against teams made up of players who are in first team consideration at other clubs, .

Standish to use your own terminology

      “Don’t give me that shite!”

The make up of the teams we play against is exactly the same of ours youngsters nobody has heard of.
I had a conversation about this recently with a colleague who is a blackburn season ticket holder and quite knowledgeable about his club, we were talking about how squad players get ‘match fitness’ as none of them seem to play reserve team games any more as the reserves are full of development players/youth team as you correctly say, but its not just wigan athletics as you claim, its all the teams.
People really need to keep themselves focused on the topic – RTFP – Read the F3cki& Post. ……instead of turning it into some self centered dick showing crusade to vilify their own pithy, trolling argument……

      From the Premier League..

“Youth Development is hugely important to the Premier League and since the League’s inception in 1992, the youth programme has expanded beyond all recognition.

At that time, Clubs had access to young players from the age of 14 for one to two hours per week. Now there are 40 Academies across the country.

Seventeen of them are in the Premier League with the exceptions being Wigan Athletic, QPR and Swansea, who operate Centres of Excellence.

So after others have creamed themselves from the ‘fixtures’ page of the Latics website showing recent results they really should acquaint themselves with the ethos of this part of the club.

Let he who cast the first stone

It’s not about the feckin results…….nor is it about your feckin hidden agenda. It is about the youth of this great town and their development as young men, academically as well as socially (you know the ‘real big picture’).

But hey!….Go on have a dig…..all of you – let’s let down the youth of the town and dispel any idea that there might be hope in the future, let’s crush their very being (after all we don’t need them do we?)

Get out of your feckin ivory towers and talk sense………..for all I’ve ever read here recently, from some, is complete and utter trolling, seditious claptrap.

      ermmmm! someone mentioned context earlier:

Man city 6….Man Utd errmm. That really was a very poor result for their respective youth teams.

Insert [give me feckin strength] smilie here

You mention that “if you want to look at results, then no, it’s not going so great this season. But if you want to look at the development of young players, and especially young local players, then yes it is going great” – sorry but I don’t see any evidence to back up the claim that it’s going great this season. If you set the yardstick of “great” at some Wigan lads in the youth set up then it’s one hell of a low yardstick.

Is the development squad turning players into ones who can challenge for a first team place? – Callum McManaman at present & as far as I’m aware he was on the books before Bobby arrived

Sorry Tyldesley, but Micky C just reminded me with his post that I haven’t replied to this yet.

I disagree completely. A Wigan lad coming through the ranks and into the first team isn’t a low yard stick at all. In fact, it’s a fooking high yard stick.

Not sure where you grew up (although the name might give it away), but in Wigan there was little emphasis on developing footballers when I was a young lad. If you played Rugby League, then you couldn’t have grown up anywhere better, but football, you’d no chance.

Clubs like Middlesbrough and Crewe have had fantastic reputations for taking local talent and developing it into professional footballers over the years, and that’s what need to be emulated at Wigan.

That infrastructure is now in place and I’d love to one day be able to watch Wigan Athletic with a team filled with Wigan lads.

You might not see this target as anything special – I do.
