Got beaten 2-0
Emile Heskey has returned to Wigan to train with their youngsters but manager Roberto Martinez says he will not be pursuing a deal for the striker.
The 34-year-old is a free agent after being released from Aston Villa when his contract ran out earlier in the summer.
Heskey has since been linked with a number of clubs, including reuniting with his old boss Steve Bruce at Hull City, and has returned to Wigan while he considers his options.
He is helping out the youngsters and keeping himself fit, with Martinez happy to welcome him back with open arms.
However, the Spaniard insists that does not mean Heskey will be signing a permanent deal.
“Emile has had a tremendous history with Wigan,” said Martinez. “But I don’t think there will be any more pages to be written in that particular book.
“Emile asked to come in to keep himself fit, and we’ve all obviously got some great memories of his time with Wigan Athletic.
“He is always welcome at our football club, and his presence will be great for the youngsters as part of their learning curve.
“Any session where you get the opportunity to work with someone like Emile Heskey is something that every one of our players should be taking advantage of.
“Emile is always welcome at Christopher Park, he can stay for as long as he likes.”
Deal to be completed today!
Ramis, who has played almost 200 games for Mallorca and Valladolid, has been linked with a host of clubs including Everton, Sunderland, Aston Villa and Celtic.
ESPN are reporting the fact that Wigan Athletic have completed the signing of Ivan Ramis from RCD Mallorca. The Wigan Athletic chairman is quoted by ESPN sources as saying,
“He (Ramis) has passed his medical and it (the deal) is being concluded. It’s down to the influence of Roberto (Martinez) because the player doesn’t speak English and didn’t want to go to West Ham who had agreed a deal.
“But Roberto asked me to go out to Mallorca where I met their chairman and with the club in receivership they accepted my offer and then I went to see the player.”
Whelan has also insisted that the club hope to make another couple of signings before the opening League game against Chelsea in three weeks time.
Suppose
Chelsea are preparing a final £7.5 million offer
Youth team!
Not gonna happen. He’s already been quoted as saying Wigan aren’t for him. The Daily Mail are just notoriously anti West Ham
Ivan Ramis is joining the Hammers
I wouldn’t sleep with him…No No!
Chelsea have reopened negotiations with Wigan Athletic to sign Victor Moses and are understood to be prepared to raise their bid of £6 million for the 21 year-old.
Can he still have a medical at the club even thought the squad isn’t there?
We have offered £3M but they want either £4.75M or £4.25
So he made it all up?
