Like I said in my previous post it’s how you react to “criticism” – if that’s what you perceive it to be – of your views. A flippant attitude is probably needed.
Merry Christmas.
Then I shall look objectively at each post then Sammy, however, my reactions, in the past, have been to down right rudeness and unnecessary withering comments by some here. If the perpetrator of said comments continues to hide under the banner of “it’s only a wind up” when challenged, then maybe they too need to look inward at their approach to comments on the board.
Merry Christmas
First time I’ve posted for around a year maybe, been logging in and seeing it all, however it’s really lost some of its characters. Seems to be same folk driving newer posters away, or same folk stamping down on any craic that is generated.
Hope it gets a little busier next year, and the temporary poor form of the team is short lived with it.
And that’s why my grandson (and some of his friends) stay clear of commenting on this board.
I’m just a “daft old twat” here at the annoyance of some on this board – there you go eh?
Yet you’re one of those that is always having said arguments? Weird eh?
Like Sammy says, if you post codswallop on a public forum you should be prepared to take the flack for it.
Like I said to the fat lad, in previous deliberations, I’m not the one changing topics/threads to suit a point of view or point score in a discussion. If ever I were guilty of posting codswallop then I would accept any flack coming my way. You really need to separate your blinkered view of what goes on between the disagreements I have with people here and the observations I make on football related topics – after all it’s all opinion isn’t it. Or, have you jumped on the bandwagon too of what mighty_aff is alluding to in that if nothing fits within your little quadrant society then they must be talking bollox and have no place on this forum and therefore must need to be ‘moved along’?
Edit: by the way, where in that quote or indeed the thread, has anyone mentioned “said arguments”?

I think it’s more pity than annoyance.
You see I’d take pity, over the floods of easy ridicule poured upon your every contribution. I, after all, have nothing to prove and when people laugh in my company they laugh with me unlike people in your company – I think you can guess the rest.
Merry Christmas fat lad.

So we can all move on.He accepts he was wrong to say it, pleading guilty mitigates any penalty, grandson takes over, and the Press can move on to something else.
I think that we all knew that there was only ever going to be one outcome to this, and today I feel sad. However, “the Press can move on to something else, I don’t think that is going to happen any time soon. There is a nasty southern underclass within the popular press (particularly the Red Tops) who like nothing better than to birch us til we bleed and will take great pleasure in continuing this saga with Mackay still in position.
I truly hope that he has the strength of character to ride this out and prove to everyone that he is the right man for the job so that we can go about our business of playing good football and entertaining the fans.
Well it appears that we nearly have it. No one, it appears, is dead against 442, but realise that it must only be used as an alternative system of play and it is not the ‘golden key’. We do not have the players on board, nor do we have access to, those players who are class enough to play in world beating formations. Finally, we have also noticed that because we ply our trade in the Championship then we must expect (in most of the games we play) to encounter the long hoof ball that would bore the arse off many a supporter, but may be the alternative required on the day. This is not the Premier League.
Horses for course then.
Or have read the 6000 threads on here proclaiming 442 to be the holy grail of footballing formations.
Egg, I’m not saying it’s the holy grail but depending on the quality of you playing staff 4-4-2 is possibly best suited to the average player. Take wing backs, I hate the modern wing back for the sole reason that you have to be of the highest calibre to be able to play the role effectively. The Ashley Coles of the world are like rocking horse shit. You cannot expect a full back who has been playing in a flat back four to suddenly become a wing back. It is imho possibly the most specialised position in the outfield and you must be lightening fast and quick thinking to be able to play the role. If you put an average player in the role it can provide you with a whole world of defensive problems. Modern formations and modern players need to be adaptable and here lies the key for Malky, how to get the right one. You certainly cannot put 2 up top in any format, it needs thought and maybe the gaffer is keeping familiarity until he is happy he knows where the quality is and which formation is best suited. 4-4-2 may not be the best way anymore but if you don’t possess the players good enough to play other formats then it is certainly not the worst either.
If I may say, that was very well put. I agree the modern game has changed over the years, however, the playing staff pot we get to chose our players from do not contain those with the gifted skills to carry it off.
To take on the 442 debate, I think it unfair for those who are vehemently against it, just because it does not fit with current playing practices or Spanish/German/Brazilian ethos – it’s about applying the right formation for the right game. If, say during a game, the manager sees that switching to that formation may be of benefit and confusing to the opposition then why not have it ‘in your locker’. I’m not saying set your team out from the outset in a 442 formation but train them how to adapt to that if the need arises. Just think of it – if no one is playing it that way, nor training for it then it could be difficult for teams to deal with. I suppose what I’m saying is – don’t dismiss it out of hand, you never know when it could be useful. Great military leaders have used tactics employed hundreds/thousands of years prior to great effect – (consider all the options) the sign of a good leader.
Touched a nerve with the old care home thing there, by the looks of things. Did you enjoy giving us all your personal lifestyle CV back there? Cathartic, was it? A bit of a golfer, and you go on holiday four times a year, eh? Well, that’s me done. Can’t compete with that. Time to pack it all in.Oh yeah, and do yourself a favour, if you’re going to pull people up on their grammer, like the lowercase E in English thing – proof read your own posts before you start tossing literary stones. Stops you making yourself looking like a bit of a dick.
Touched a nerve? Don’t flatter yourself, I did it to show you how inadequate you really are and give you an insight into your rather pathetic future. Your
insultscomments are getting drawn and thin now, like you said – time to pack it all in now and get your name down for Norley Hall Care Home while they still have a few vacancies. The only person making themselves look like a bit of a dick is you dear boy.
Yes, but clearly he has followed that thought process and concluded that he doesn’t find me tedious yet you, he does.I see from later posts made last evening – made while I was in the pub not talking about you – that a few other sensible board members are now lining up to question your sanity, worth and ability to comprehend written english.
Just a thought like.
Anyway, have a nice day reading the forum’s posts and interpreting them completely differently to every one else, which is what seems to be happening. I have a very busy day at work ahead of me. You make sure you enjoy the care home’s bingo and your boiled egg and soldiers.
Are you absolutely stark raving bonkers or what. My grandson text me to say he and his mates have just read your last nonsensical, made-up, delusional clap trap post and you are now confirmed as Wigans biggest balloon – and laughing stock to boot.
Where on earth are these other sensible posters lining up questioning my sanity, worth and ability to understand written English(you see I have capitalised the adjective ‘English’ for you – I would have expected you to have known that being a published author and all that)? Are you referring to The Egg’s statement about ‘what colour is the sky’, or that well known social commentator thty5? Either way, you prove time and time again how little is your grasp of what is real and what isn’t.
Further I find your mental interpretation of my retired lifestyle rather intriguing. Perhaps this is how you see yourself ending up along with your sweeper co-workers sometime in the future – when you eventually reach that mellow age of 67. Me? As a retired Chartered Manager I like to mix my time up by laughing at the inadequacies of some of the posters on this board (you) whilst enjoying my conservatory, a bit of golf here and there, the company of friends in my club and at least 4 holidays abroad a year. Travel, it really does broaden the mind you know – try it. Your first challenge would be to step outside of that empty head of yours.
Anyway you just carry on in that little narcissistic world of yours whilst the future generations of Wigan laugh at you for being so incredibly [there are far too many words I would like to enter here – none of which are complimentary].
Honestly, and I know this for a fact, there are quite a few (on here) who do laugh at you and your tired excuses and insults time after time. Try to be nice, you never know, people may be nice back to you.
I just find you boring and tedious that’s all maybe a bit stubborn I tend to notice these thingsYou know, you might just want to try that thought process when reading some of Griffs input. You’ll be surprised at the outcome. It cuts both ways you know, and I’m not the one who goes out of their way just to insult other board members.
Just a thought like.
I often think “oh dear” when you post and get constantly shown up only to argue the point over and phookin over again :Sand then there were three.
I’m not even going to try and explain it to you. :S
What colour is the sky on your planet?Oh dear!
No problem with people not wanting to go. Nobody is going to tell me I shouldn’t go and slag me off for if I do. Which is what I believe has been happening on social media tonight.
I was more than likely not going – I must just change my mind now
That’s not what I’ve tried to achieve with that article Griff. It would be great if we could get a united effort to make a statement here, but if people feel that’s not the right thing to do then it’s their call. There will always be people who overstep the mark, but the core point remains – clubs are taking the mick and will continue to until fans make it clear they’re not having it anymore.
I like the sentiment of your article and may I applaude the initiative to get some well needed funds in for the Brick Homeless Charity.
Well done.
I am amazed at the hypocrisy. Whelan is being defended on here for making stupid, ill conceived, insulting and dated comments when trying to make light of the pretty untasteful texts Mackay sent yet, when it’s thrown back at them in a very tongue-in-cheek way those same people scream, out of order.
Yes Sammy, I was one of those standing up for Mr Whelan for his unfortunate mutterings which have been seen by most of the country as the utterings of an oldman who should have known better but were never meant to insult nor be offensive.
However, if you think that the headline in that blog was meant as ‘tongue-in-cheek’ then you have clearly missed the tasteless intent meant by his words. There was never any need to fan the flames of what was already a well trodden and discussed episode.
I, am not the hypocrite here, nor am I the ‘hey look at me’ type (as displayed by that beurk and wannabe writer, but I do know what I’m talking about and don’t curry favour by changing what I say to please an audience.
All the best from: Lord Chief Knobhead of the Darby and Joan Club
PS: never seen you in there but I wager we of the same age (or thereabouts)
Poor old duffer’s getting confused now Sammy, you’re not having the credit for the Darby and Joan Club line. Perhaps Care Home would have been more apt for our confused, old member. He does seem awfully confused.
The gift that just keeps giving.
I never said nor sttibuted that line to Sammy – tis you who said it for all to see. I was right about the ‘hey look at me’, ‘it were me that wrote that funny’, ‘please like me’ condition that you so surely suffer from.
Oh dear! Now please stop, it is very cold out there, and I can no longer laugh with cracked lips.
Cracked is very apt. I can’t explain how silly you are making yourself look now.
I’ve edited it for accuracy of your competency levels.
You’re welcome.
Hey! never mind you boring old, fat get. Christmas is coming and you may just get that brand new crayon set you pine for.
Oh Jesus, you can’t even come up with a decent put down. Is that the best you can do? You could at least have had the decency to include bald, in there.
I’m off to the pub. So bored with you, it’s not true
Nah! Bald is so yesterday. I’d venture to say that everyone has used that as a put down to date.
