In between your w@nk fest, think about it logically:

No Rugby Team = Less revenue to Whelco in terms of rent, refreshments etc.

Operating Costs for DW Stadium need to be paid by someone. Only one occupant left to contribute.

Ticket costs go up, as costs cannot be covered by any other way.

Crowds drop due to increased ticket costs, just like they did in 2007/8.

Like it or not, having the DW used by two clubs for 32 days a year, rather than one club with 19 days is financially more beneficial to the Stadium Management Company.

Thanks. Can you provide me a link from an official source as to where the figure 11800 came from?

in reply to: Season ticket question #99913

I googled it but the closest I came to an answer was a thread on vital football. Unfortunately, the OP on that thread was unable to prove his claim with facts, quotes or links.

Standish – It isnt that important, but I find it curious that the official figure for this or any season has never been reported, nor has any “sold more than XXXX” figure been reported by the club.

I thought that simple question would be too difficult for you.

You really dont like to talk FACTS do you SDW?

Anyone else care to help SDW out with this question?

I have never seen you admit we had more support, so how am I wrong? But anyway, that wasn’t the point we were trying to iron out, I threw that in as an observation.

So as you haven’t challenged the rest of my post I assume you conceded that I am right about both team’s fans don’t really turn out for the early rounds of the Cup (but at least our fans had the added excuse that we field reserve sides), thanks.

How about your one and only major semi-final? Remind me and the rest of the goons on here who applaud your every word what the crowd was for that game….

After all these years you have now at least admitted that you know there are more supporters of Wigan Athletic than Wigan Warriors.

Nice try Mr Taylor, but you are mistaken! Here’s why:

I dont think there has ever been any doubt that there are more Season Ticket Holders for Wigan Athletic since they reached the Premier League. At £250 for 19 games, including about 6 games where a ticket would set you back close to £30, then it represents fantastic value, as you are effectively paying £70 to watch the remaining 13 PL fixtures (I take it everyone shows up for the big 6 games. Compare that to a Warriors ST, where for a similar price of £200, you get 13 or 14 games.

The key difference is that the match day tickets for rugby dont fluctuate due to the opponents – a ticket to watch Wigan v Saints will cost the same as Wigan v London. This means that there is less incentive to purchase a ST for the rugby than football, as the savings against purchasing a match-day ticket for every game are only around 22%.

The number of home fans attending each game is pretty much the same – around 13,000 – its just 3,000 buy match day tickets for the rugby and around 1,000 buy match day tickets for the football.

Now, I’m basing my assumption that Wigan Athletic have 12,000 ST holders on the crowds that seem to show up for “regular” fixtures. Unless there is some BOGOF or freebie issue, then I would expect your attendance next Sat to be around 18,000 (13500 less the 4500 that will be following the away side). As far as I’m aware, the number of ST holders has never been officially reported. If you can disprove me with an official quote that there are far less than 12,000, then I will happily re-amend my figures.

    Over to you….

But did shell out for Newcastle, Norwich and Aston Villa Away in a short space of time.

Roughly how many of your 11-12,000 ST holders went to all of those games? My guess is less than 500. My guess is that the majority of those would have turned up to watch the FA Cup tie too, as they are the loyal fans, not the Johnny-Come-Latelys.

With regards to 6,000 loyal ST holders not going to a reserve game, I can’t comment. I thought 8,000+ was a decent crowd considering it was public knowledge that the second string was to be used, I expected it to be a couple of thousand less than that.

It was a first team game in the worlds oldest knockout competition. Just because your manager chose to treat it with contempt doesnt make it a reserve game, or a pre-season friendly.

Does that compare to where 6,000 loyal ST holders disappeared to when your full strength squad took on Catalan for the play off quarter finals in front of just over 7,000? (I can feel the steam building)

Warriors had around 10,500 ST Holders last season – 7,232 is just over 3,000, not 6,000. It was on Tv. The prices for this game were slightly higher than the ones for the Wigan v Bournemouth game. And of course, it wasnt a quarter final, it was a game where even the losers got another chance of progressing to the next stage.

    Jesus, how embarrassing!![/quote]

At least they went. Unlike 6,000 of your “Loyal” ST holders last weekend.

Dont use price as an excuse, because these loyal fans only paid £13 a game at the start of the season, so its not like they had to shell out £30 on New Years Day for a Man U ticket.

Cut and paste all you want, but it wont detract from:

    1. Over 1,000 Wigan fans went to watch these kids play a pre-season friendly where nothing was at stake.

    2. Half your Season Ticket Holders couldnt be arsed to support your side in the oldest knock-out competition in the world.

    in reply to: Meanwhile….Over on chubby-ville.com #99357

Of which about 1,000 were supporting the Wigan Youth Team.

care to Blog about that Mr Griffin?

We’ll find out this afternoon when they play a friendly at Leigh Sports Village.

I’ll have a wild guess that the following will be a larger number than the away following in the 257 for the pre-season friendly at Fylde, or even the 410 that attended the Southport v Wigan friendly.

But then again, Fylde and Southport are so far far away – the cost would have been astronomical.

How many of your “Loyal” fans will be buying tickets for the oldest knockout cup fixture in the world next month?

Clearly not very many bothered.

Rather like you lot love to include all the away fans and the freebies when you are bigging up your 19,000+ crowds.

The season hasnt started and its over 5 months away to that fixture, so I hardly imagine any club’s supporters will be stampeding to the ticket office for tickets.

How many of your “Loyal” fans will be buying tickets for the oldest knockout cup fixture in the world next month?
