I would love Benjani down here at Wigan, class act, would complement Hugo well imo. Would also mean we wouldn’t have to play Scotland, hopefully.

Typical pundit, one defeat and we’re going down, one win and we’re mid-table. Fool.

Sounds like a most of the Wigan ‘Fans’ on here tbh.

Nice touch by Latics to have the Poppy embroidered into the shirt for Sunday’s game against Fulham, even better that the shirts will be auctioned off for the charity and the triple bonus of servicemen being given tickets to come and see the game.

Here you go Stephen Fry, have a read of these.

They’ve all been posted a dozen times apiece, but give you an insight into where the money goes within a football club. (Sorry for everyone that has already read these several times)

Dozen Times? Show me these dozen time please. Sorry to everyone who have read these several times? So that’s nobody then.

Incidentally, I found your comment regarding ‘function hire’ being a major contributor to Wigan Athletic’s annual income to be pure genius. 20k each week on function room hire for all but two weeks of the year would break a million. If the club expanded this to the training ground, I’m sure we’d be well on track to buy Messi next May.

Where did i say it was a major conributor to Latics income? Please show me! I just said it WAS a way of income, I missed several off like sponsorship of various different things and considering Christmas time functions cost up to 50£ for one night, thats 17500£ in and what couple of 2k out in wages and overheads?

And then, swap the words Blackburn Rovers for Wigan Athletic, and imagine the Blackburn Chairman didn’t didn’t have moustache and his name was Dave:

                      http://www.lancashiretelegraph.co.uk/sp … h/?ref=rss

As said before of course he runs the club in debt, so he isn’t taxed to the high heavens from the bastard government. Where the hell are these figures coming from? Wigan Athletic only turn over 43mil a year? You’re having a laugh. The wages in 2007 38mil up from 27mil in 2006 and Whelan said the wages were 35mil the year we got into the prem. So the year before was 35mil. So it fell after the first season then rose the next? Somebody is telly porkys I think. ;)

Blinding copying and pasting links does you no favours.

to paraprick so 53mill debt is good for uncle daves bank balance
dont think so,do you still not go to the games

He runs it in debt so there is less tax, btw were did you get this 53mil debt from, plucked it from thin air? No doubt he does run the club books in debt for the aforementioned reasons.

I’ll pick up on just 3 points, Para, because it’s obvious we will never agree:-

1, the £3m to £35 is a direct quote from Whelan’s non-picture book. Also, I believe, it is backed up in the club accounts (though I have never read them)

Why not just put your hands up and say you wrong, instead of not even quoting a 1/5 of what I’ve put, because I’m right, that’s why.

Do you believe everything you read in books? Especially for Whelan, he’s well know for just saying what he want’s people to hear and not the truth. (Good example recently, Marlon King, not wanting convicts, but yet has Rachid Bouaouzan at the club, sent down? Yes? No? It’s all a show for the media, another example is foreign managers, O hi Martinez, didn’t realise you were English. )

2, if you think that Saha and Owen would have come to Wigan, rather than Everton and Man U, you’re totally deluded, no matter what wages we might have offered. Why do you think we are scouring central America for people no-one has ever heard of?

Of course they would. 80%+ of players would go ANYWHERE for the cash. Gareth Barry, Toure, Adabayor, Robinho? Yeh they went to Manchester City for other reasons obviously. We are scouting central America for bargains because Whelan’s such a tight arse with his purse strings.

3, he has NOT promised £40m every season, and it’s about time that people stopped perpetuating this myth. And in any case, Man U and Liverpool don’tcan’t spend that much.

Were did I say he’d promised £40million every season? That’s right, I didn’t. Manchester United don’t need to spend lots of money, they’ve both done it in the past to get their squads up to high levels. Look at Chelsea, big cash influx, bought loads of new players, this season, Zhirkov? Hardly anything compared to a few seasons ago, because now they only need fine tunning to compete for the league. United have hardly spent any of the cash from Ronaldo because still they are competing at the top. Benitez was complaining to his board because he doesn’t have the squad depth to compete with Chelsea, United.

Well, I’m good mate but I’m no mind-reader. How was I to know your main argument was a constantly moving feast, to be shifted as soon as someone proves you wrong?

Apologies – by the way you go on on this board I’d of thought you were a mind-reader with all this rubbish your spouting. Proved wrong? Where?

As for big name signings, who do you seriously expect to see here? If N’zogbia costs £6m, what’s the going rate for a “decent” player and how do you think that a club like Wigan (not Dave Whelan personally) can justify spending that kind of money?

Big name signings don’t have to come at a massive cost, Saha, cheap pay as you play, Owen, free, pay as you play. Wigan are making ample enough profit to afford such signings or Whelan wouldn’t still be here.

As for the war chest, to the best of my knowledge, Whelan famously said ONCE (prior to the first premier season, not every season) that he would match the prem/TV money of £20m with £20m of his own. But, Jewell didn’t spend it.

He’s promised mega money nearly every pre-season, how many times has he back it up? Not once. Jewell probably didn’t spend it cause Whelan probably wouldn’t let him.

If you have read Whelan’s book, which you probably haven’t as there aren’t many pictures, you’ll know that the wage bill at the end of the last championship year was £3m and by the time we kicked off in the premier league 3 months later it was £35m. So, we are now in the 5th year of an annual wage bill of £35m. Not much left of the the TV money after that’s been paid, I wouldn’t have thought.

Poor attempt at a dig there mate, your title as ‘best poster’ is well deserved… not.

Up from 3mil to 35mil? Over 11 fold up, I think not. Even with an increase in squad wages, we only signed Hall, Kirkland,Heskey, Landzaat and Kilbane, if the whole squad were on 3million between them, wage increases wouldn’t have been big and these guys wouldn’t be on mega bucks. The money from TV will be over 30mil, add to that, gate reciepts, private function hire(wouldn’t still be running if it caused loses.) stadium catering(run by Whelan), rent for the Worriers, prize money from league + cup, transfer income. I think they all add up.

All this, of course, is on top of the money Whelan spent GETTING Wigan to the premier league when there was nothing like that kind of TV money available to him. Now, I suppose you want him to spend every last penny he has on WAFC, but if keeping a few million of HIS money to himslef makes him a stupid, money-grabbing t**t then I guess he’s guilty as charged.

Don’t get me wrong, as strange as it may seem, I am not actually Whelan’s biggest fan – he definitey has a number of faults, but fleecing WAFC financially is not one of them, in my opinion.

And finally, as someone who spends most of his time posting abusive and insulting replies on this board, don’t try getting all chatty and chummy about my lad’s lego just because you know you’re losing your argument.

If/when Wigan become financially unviable, Whelan will be off quicker than a Prostitutes knickers.

End of the day it’s money money money and he spouts about wanting the best for Wigan, it’s not, it’s what’s best for his bank balance.

Soon as somebody bids anything over 2.5mil and Whelan will see the ££££ signs and jump at the chance, stupid money grabbing tw@.

                                Cattermole, £4m (I think)
                                Valencia, £16m
                                Palacios, £12m

All considerably more than £2.5m. And in terms of keeping the club financally viable, very good deals – especially on top of all the other money he has invested.

So, if a mediocre player like Figueroa is adamant that he wants to go, I’d take £2.5m though I expect we would get nearer £4m, especially if Bruce wants him in January.

Dismantle my argument? I wouldn’t trust you to dismantle my lad’s Thomas the Tank Engine lego set.

Out of interest which job working for Whelan did you have and expected him to give you a living for nothing? Warehouse picker or Poole’s pie tester?[/quote]

The 2.5million was just a random number. If somebody bids around 2.5mil for Figueroa, good luck to them.

Cash is all Whelan is in it for, he’s gotta lucky that Bruce and Jewell? have picked up good cheap players so Whelan can sell them for more.
Where is this 20mil Warchest he’s promised season upon season, were are ANY big name signings? He spent roughly £36million since we got promoted to the Premiership and sold considerably more. I mean Charles N’Zogbia is our record signing for Christ sake.

All he’s after is money money and more money, he doesn’t care for this club he cares for his bank balance.

Btw I’d love to dismantle your son’s play set but he’s probably a bit old for me if he’s playing with Thomas the tank.
