Apparently he was some form of preacher/vicar/priest coz that quote is lifted from one of his sermons
No idea how he got his nickname – maybe MickyC will chastise me for quoting someone I know nowt about!!!
EDIT – apparently he wasn’t a hermit. One of the leaders of the first crusade by all accounts which considering the amount of death & pillage that created brings to mind the words pot, kettle & black
Damn! I’ve been reading the History of the Crusades and knew that, but you beat me to it!
I heard someone say on Saturday they couldn’t understand why Gomez was playing.
Anyone else heard anything that they can share with us?
Banjostring’s correct – quoted as 24,000, of which 17,000 were said to be from Wigan.
Wembley attendances were always in neat 100s – I went to the 1974 Cup Final and that, like every year before and after, had a 100,000 attendance.
Wasn’t it Latic-Cat anyway?
What’s wrong with keeping that as a mascot?
GMP do not want to have to send police away from trouble spots to other places where crowds may gather.
Our game is safe. ;)
Strange times when I agree with Millwall fans:
(from Daily Mirror):
A crowd of up to 200 men turned up in ELTHAM, South East London, to “protect” it from potential rioters.
The group began gathering in the afternoon following violence and looting in neighbouring LEWISHAM and WOOLWICH.
The men were drinking in two pubs chanting “Millwall” and “England”.
A large number of police patrolled the area – as they did in other boroughs such as WANDSWORTH in South West London – and closed one of the pubs at 7.30pm.
The vigilante group then converged on an open area of land.
One man in his 20s said: “About 80% of the lads here are Millwall fans.
“We won’t stand for it. If anyone wants to come down here and start looting tonight, let them try – we’ll be ready for them. We’re here to protect the town.” The group got support on Twitter. One user, a local mum, wrote: “So proud our football fans are standing up to those little thugs in Eltham. Let’s see if the little boys go anywhere near.”
Rumour has it the scum of Wigan have started to loot now
Nothing new there then.

Not at that cost.
??? :D
I did think of – and then found that truth is stranger than fiction when I saw this in the Guardian
Genuine comment on Guardian this morning:
“My colleague Helen Clifton in Manchester has been speaking to Greater Manchester police, who are stressing that the trouble in Salford last night — which saw four or five cars damaged — was not connected with the riots elsewhere in the country. They say it was the kind of thing they are used to, adding that they remain ready to offer back-up to the Met if it is required.”
In London it’s rioting – in Salford it’s business as usual.
Not a funny situation I know – but….
Found them very sinister myself.
Springy and JJ were jolly and cheerful – these are just … well… disturbing.
Do they have a name?
Mine arrived Friday, but in Club Shop yesterday a lady was complaining that she couldn’t get the 5% discount, despite having had a ST for years, because hers hadn’t arrived yet. The “assistant” would have none of it. “Not my problem” was the helpful reply.
I believe Gomez got clapped off the pitch when he was subbed.
dont believe everything you hear, they were cheers because martinez finally substituted him.
I didn’t think so.
The game was played with good support for both teams, and I think all substitutions (including Villareal’s) were applauded. I got no sense at all in the East Stand of any ironic clapping of Gomez. I think he was just applauded off.
You are forgiven.
Because you obviously have no idea how football, business, or even life, works.
Nouah Dicko, French-Mailian, used to play for Strasbourg.
And let me guess a free agent??????
So – would you prefer we spent £10 million for him?
Would that make him more acceptable?
