Wigan Athletic v Stoke City 30th June 2020
Match Preview for visit of Stoke City
Latics haven’t recorded a win over Stoke for two years, but on the plus side, we have better home form than our visitors both in the head to head and in the league this season.
After a great win on Saturday against Blackburn Rovers, we are carrying great momentum into this game having recorded 6 wins out of the last 8 games.
Wigan are also the form team in the league at the moment with 16 points out of our last 6 games, the Potters recorded 9 in the same period and lost last time out to Middlesbrough 2-0.
It is looking like 2 more wins would see us safe and in my opinion, Stoke could and should be one of those.
Home advantage plus our form at the moment will have the team as confident as they can be and hopefully we can see another clean sheet in the process. The betting however sees both teams on 7/4 for the win with a draw bring odds of 2/1.
Stoke will come to the DW Stadium without their main playmaker Nick Powell, the ex-Latics player didn’t fancy facing his old team and so got himself a red card against Middlesbrough on Saturday.
They are still without Joe Allen and Ryan Shawcross through injury, though the latter is rumoured to be almost fit enough to play and may travel.
Chey Dunkley’s broken leg will see him miss the rest of the season, but apart from him, there are no injury problems for Paul Cook, who could possibly make a couple of changes to the side that won the last two games 2-0.
With Stoke being just 4 points and three places behind us, a win would be a superb boost for us and could see an 8 point gap open up going into the final 6 games.
Lose and we would at least keep 2 points above the relegation zone should Huddersfield and Hull win their games.
