For someone who claims to own a business, Kev hasn’t grasped the business of running a football club in Wigan, and how hard it is to get a casual fan to attend. If in doubt, refer to the crowds for any cup tie in the past 10 years at the DW.

If they were to charge £15, they may get 500 extra which equates to £7500 in extra revenue. Fantastic! But….

the away fans would have to be charged £15 too – a drop of £10. If 1000 away fans travel, then that equates to £10,000 less revenue.

£2500 loss per home fixture sounds like a piss poor business model to me Kev. Even an egg-chasing, gravy-stained chubster like me can see that!

How about just making it £18-00 for any game then, with a 10% deduction if you want to pay by season ticket. That would seem fair to all parties and ST holders would get on for £16-20 a match and also get first dabs at away and cup tickets, casuals get in for a reasonable price, service lads on leave, people working away or living away could also benefit and the JCLs who have left could pick their matches and return if we have a good run. The way things are panning out there won’t even be pay on the day or by ticket and crowds will not improve even if we hammer this league.

I can’t see the club lowering the on the day price to accommodate a few casual fans unless there was some way of not having to reduce the on the day cost for away fans.
If the cost was reduced for home fans, we would probably only gain about 100 fans per match anyway. Okay 100 x £18 x 23 matches would bring in £40K a season as long as they were fans that wouldn’t come anyway.
If the away support averages 1500 per match at £7 per fan less, we would lose £10K per match, or £240K a season.
The above figures are obviously made up, but reducing the cost to the level you have said would mean the reduced cost would have to attract around 600 more ‘new’ home supporters per match just to keep the same income level. I can’t see it happening, can you?

Not a chance of it happening because season ticket sales would drop if ST holders had to pay £16-20 a game.
It’s a catch 22 governed by overpaid players.
At the end of the day the fans who pay £20-£30 a match and the fans who splash out the £260 + for season tickets all pay for the players flash BMWs and apartments in Wilmslow.

Everybody has the opportunity to watch at a very reasonable rate and anyone who would go to just half of the games would be in pocket by taking advantage of the cheaper way to watch the matches.

The only people who pay more are the casual fans who go to a game every now and again and daft buggers like you who don’t get a season ticket on purpose so they have something to have a good old whinge about.

God there’s a lot of imbeciles on here, for god sake stop going on about season ticket prices, the issue is all about pay on the day prices, they are an Absolute Disgrace. Just look at the attendance tomorrow, i guess about 7,500 if were lucky. We won’t be included, were voting with our feet along with another 1,500 to 2,500 who won’t be going because of the pay on the day prices.

There’s just the one imbecile on here mate. You try to make out you are a long term fan and loaded, but turn your back on your club for the sake of a few quid.
Get over it and get your hand in your pocket you tight git and get supporting your team again.

Maybe I am like many people who just hasn’t got the spare 275 quid because we have other commitments and are not prepared to go into debt just for football. That £275 is multiplied for each family member.I could afford the debt but many couldn’t so it’s a choice of go in debt for football and do without other things or don’t go.
This isn’t just a Latics thing though most clubs do the same. Just look at our ancient neighbours Knob End who struggle to get fans to pay on the day because of cost. Like I say season tickets will be the only way soon. Tonight’s gate will demonstrate this again. The number of home fans in attendance for these first four home games will hardly have fluctuated due to very few fans attending who pay on the day.
Just wait to see how many loyal season ticket holders we have when the price of those goes over the £400 pound mark, and they will.

It is all about the pay on the gate price Kev and nowt else. Twenty quid at any match in football is plenty.
Blackpool match was less and the Middlesborough/Stanley games plus the FA Cup if drawn at home will be cheap so at least you can get to them.

I have been watching The Latics since 1971, when Gordon Milne was manager, or it could be 1970, its a long long time ago any way.

I have had a season ticket at the JJB/DW Stadium since it opened in 1999 bar 1 season when we last went into 3rd level football, although we still went to about 10 games.

However, we didn’t renew this year because we would miss the 1st few games anyway because of holidays and other commitments already made before the seasons fixtures came out.

There are 3 of us that normally go 2 adults and our under 18 grand child. Anyway, we decided that we would go today and went online for 2 adults and 1 under 18 tickets only to be issued with a bill of £58 + a transaction fee of? ..anyway I cancelled immeadiately.

This club wanted to charge me over £60 (including the trans fee) to watch a 3rd level football match, and looking at some other games coming up they want to charge me around £77
for 3rd level football for 2 adults and a under 18 ticket.

This is an absolute disgrace, and I will not be going to ANY games at all this season or any other for that matter at these prices. I am discussed with the club, I will still be supporting them but via WISH FM from now on and probably for ever. They have lost some very long term supporters here.

An absolute disgrace, hang your head in shame Wigan Athletic

Just a little pedantic point in your penultimate paragraph – your current actions lead me to consider that you won’t really “still be supporting them” will you?

Right Kev, like you I’ve been going since Gordon Milne unlike you I think this wonderful club has given me unbelievable value in spades. FFS, I remember paying 12 quid at Southend when we were paying 7 for home games. Me personally I cannot put a price on what my barmy brilliant club has rewarded me with over the years with success of ridiculous levels. If it was double for match day tickets I can never repay Wigan Athletic for what I have witnessed in my time as a fan.

Despite your petty outrage and childish little tantrum, even the matchday admission prices give better value than a lot of other teams. We’re still at the cheaper end of the scale I would guess. It’s £28 on the day at Peterborough on Saturday.

You missed out “I am discussed with the club”.

I am not an old tight git and have probably paid more money to Wigan Athletic than most on here!?? Plus, I am not saying that I cant afford to pay around £77 for just one 3rd level match, as I do have my own businesses, and the £77 represents around an hour and 10 mins work of net pay.

So its not that I can’t afford it, its the principle ….£77 for just one 3rd level game of football for 2 adults and a 13yo child is an ABSOLUTE DISGRACE….And I will NOT be going to ANY GAMES at these prices this season. It will be the first time since 1971 that I will have not been to any games. When I 1st started watching The Latics I think it was around 10p to get in, and i used to sell programs to get free entry + a few penny’s commission.

We used to go to places like: Netherfield, Skem Utd, Matlock, Great Harwood, Ellesmere Port Town, since 1971 I have probably missed less than 20 home games in all that time before this season.

But, now I think the club is an ABSOLUTE DISGRACE. Less than 9,000 attended on Sat and there will be even less on Tuesday.

It’s senseless by the club, there will be around 18,000 empty seats on Tuesday, if they started charging £15 for adults and a £5 for under 18’s they may get an extra couple of thousand on.!??

I don’t care what any other clubs charge, I am not interested in any other clubs, and it doesn’t matter what the seasons tickets cost. It’s the pay on the day prices I think are an ABSOLUTE DISGRACE!, and as a supporter of over 46 years i believe that i am quite entitled to my opinion without any childish jibes and cat calling thanks very much!

I reckon this lad thinks it’s an ABSOLUTE DISGRACE

I also reckon this is a wind up

And I also reckon this is Dave Garswood on account of the CAPITALISATION in his post

Dave, are you owning up to this?

                      #162078

Wait until xmas kev then you can buy the half-season tickets.

                      #162080

I think it was last season when Blackburn & Wigan were proven to be the best value clubs in the whole of the North West. As I recall, last season we were 30% cheaper than your average Knob End ticket, and they were a division below us.

Kev, you WOULD LOVE IT; if you took your kids to the cinema & treated them to pop, crisps & ice cream; in fact you would probably have to re-mortgage.

Can’t believe you are a true & lifelong supporter of the Latics ( probably just an eggy troll ).

Enjoy watching Emmerdale tonight whilst picking your big toe nail, cos we all will be cheering on the Tics.
