‘You don’t know what you’re doing?’
Shall we get out our coaching badges and compare? Cos I’m sure that the idiots in the east stand know infinitely less about the beautiful game than the manager.
I was frankly embarrassed by the way some of our ‘fans’ treated Roberto last night. It’s time some of you clowns had a reality check. I found myself agreeing last night with all the arseholes in the media who knock us continually – last night some of our fans proved that we don’t deserve a Premier League team.
I don’t buy into the ‘JCL’ argument, but seriously, if you have only been watching Latics for 10 years or less, then please go away and read some history. We are a club equivalent to Rochdale, Morecambe, Macclesfield, Hartlepool etc. And yet we’re playing in the Premier League. The fans of those clubs would give anything for one season of what we’ve had. The jokers in the east stand last night need to realise that you don’t always win at football.
Also, can you try to understand that although Dave Whelan is rich beyond belief compared to the likes of you and I, his wealth is nothing compared to the kind of people who are bankrolling other Premier League clubs. I have it on very good authority that the way Bruce, Benson and Spencer had been running the club, we were just throwing money away. Roberto has introduced a salary cap and is trying to build the club properly and get us playing attractive football with good young players who don’t rape the club of money. Would you rather have Mario tossing it off on £40k a week, or McCarthy, McArthur, Moses, and Cleverley on a combined wage of £40k?
This is Roberto who is doing this. He wants the best for Wigan Athletic. He REALLY does. He turned down 3 bigger clubs to come here. He is one of the best young managers in World Football and he WANTS to be our manager. He’s not using us as a stop gap like melon head at Sunderland. I cannot believe how lucky we are to have him. And yet some people are happy to drive him out.
Get behind Roberto and the boys, or F*ck off somewhere else.

I thought the introduction of Boyce, McCarthur and McCarthey gave us a real boost alst night. Fitness looked a big problem for them…

Unfortunately the greed culture that is prevalent within society today conditions people into believing they should have and must have what everyone else has regardless of the consequences. Whelan has put a stake in the ground and said enough is enough. He’s got a manager who shares his views and is “cutting the cloth” to suit Wigan Athletic. Maybe, and most probably, we’ll get relegated this season but it’s better to do that with the current regime than to throw money around on high cost managers and players in the vain hope this will be the solution, only to find you’ve still been relegated but bankrupted the club in the process. Why don’t all those people who are in “panic” and “despair” at what they perceive to be wrong at the club get together and buy out Whelan? Maybe you can borrow the money using the club’s assets as collateral! You can then have nothing to moan about and no one to blame and the remaining doom mongers can direct their vitriol at you instead when proclaiming to be the only voice of reason and sense.
It makes sense that if we cannot see any changes in our playing formation, motivation or players ability that past performance will continue to prevail. If you physically don’t try anything different how can anything change.
Maybe as Big Dave says it is just luck we need to change :)
Well said 63 , at last some heart felt common sense.
I must admit I too was embarrassed by the reaction to the substitutions last night. But more than that I was bewildered. If Villa had just slotted home their 5th or 6th goal then maybe I could understand it. But at the time they were 2 subs that had to be made , Boyce was goosed and Thomas was having a mare. We already had the 3 best attackers currently at our disposal on the pitch , so what were the moaners after.
Like you say Bob is building foundations at this club that will see us right for the years ahead. Fat Sam, Hodgson etc wouldn’t do that . They like the morons last night would only see as far as the last and next result. A football club isn’t just about the eleven players who appear on Match of the Day at ten to midnight every Saturday night, it’s about much more.

Great post and it is just unfortunate that some will ridicule it. The future is going to be bleak for some clubs, our current set it trying to make sure we have a club to follow what ever league we are in.

We have a half decent squad of players not the best but IMO not the worst in the Division. So why are we so poor??? the manager has to take responsibility has he not.
