I’m joining the list of people saying this is an excellent post.
What we’ve achieved is the envy of many clubs; a great deal of them with a far better history than ours.
We generally played well last night, and the commitment was there from the players. We need more of the same from the fans.

It was a great post, and you’ve come back with this clever, reasoned response. Well done.How about putting a case together of why you don’t think any of those statements are true, and try to avoid words like sh7te, moron, clown, and clueless.

now my comment was that I personally thought this was a little strong in what is quite a good article, the same article that talks about and I quote
‘We are a club equivalent to Rochdale, Morecambe, Macclesfield, Hartlepool etc’ – which I have no problem with and agree.
Now I have no idea how long you have been watching us, but let me tell you this ‘Spencer’ was at the club in various capacities for many years at Springfield Park (that was our old ground) and so was part of that era when we were equivalent to the clubs above – to remind you we were then on a shoe string and had no money etc blah blahNow correct me if I am wrong here – but hasnt she been made or given a title like Hon Life President or Hon Vice President or something similar. This also then brings into the equation the quote of
‘I have it on very good authority’ – now either the claims are way off beam (and if this is the case, the thread looses credability) or someone in a good position presumably within the club is now undermining not only Brenda Spencer but Dave Whelan who employed her as a trusty employee for many many yearsSo whats your view on ‘Spencer’ then otter

Tea Bag, I know as much about Brenda Spencer as the average Latics supporter. For your info my 1st match was, at a guess 1963ish, but I started watching regularly when Gordon Milne took over. So I was around when Bill Kenyon brought Brenda Spencer along with him. I also remember that when Steven Gage bought Kenyon out he chased him up hill and down dale and eventually got the money back that he took out of the club. Yet he and then Dave Whelan kept her on. Do you think they’d both do that if she was sponging off the club.
I realise it wasn’t you that said she was but it you that highlighted that one statement. I don’t think for minute JayT was approving that one statement when he said it was a good piece. Just approving the general feeling of the original post.
Many fans have had enough of Martinez and they are entitled to their opinions. By responding to this post doesn’t mean I am slating what the original poster wrote but his opinions of our manager are just that, OPINIONS ! My opinion is that Bob isn’t up to the job and regardless of whether we go down or not he has proved to me with his stubbornness re tactics that he will not take this club forward. The problem here is that he is a club legend and I believe that if it were some other young manager with no previous link to the club the fans would be more on their back than a few kids up in ES2 ! Maybe some of you are in a bubble of optimism and refuse to accept that things are not good out on the park but I can tell you, I hear it week in week out, all around me in the stand and down in the concourse, talk of ” He is clueless “, ” He doesn’t know what he is doing ” , ” He is bereft of emotion and guile ” . Plus many more ! The general consensus is from what I can gather, the manager is NOT up to the job. OPINIONS yes but a majority and not only on here but down the stadium !

I didn’t really want to reply. This is the first post I’ve ever made, and I did it as I just wanted to make a point to certain people and leave it at that. However, as you are so hellbent on defending Brenda, I thought I’d defend my comment.
Who do you think the ex-employee is who only a matter of weeks ago was reported in the national press as touting Charles N’Zogbia to other clubs? Bruce has been given plenty sh¦t by our fans for unsettling our players to join him at Sunderland. I agree that he’s out of order, but at least he did it for football reasons and at least he wasn’t still connected with our club.
She was peddling Charles around to benefit her retirement fund, and while she’s our life president or whatever. What a cheek!
She has used her position within the club to open doors when contacting people to try and flog our prized asset. So basically, she gets rich for doing something that no-one wants her or has asked her to do.
As for the ‘I have it on good authority’ comment, I’m not going to go naming sources at the club to add credibility to the post – I’m not the only one who knows someone or other who works there – so you either take my word for it or not. But don’t you think it’s a bit of a conincidence that her and Benson leave when a manager arrives who has the chairman’s ear more than they did and therefore is fully able to question what they actually did?
And finally…. Whelan and Martinez and others regularly get a slating on this and many other boards. Do you flag this up to an administrator every time? Thought not. Which leads me to believe that YOU are in fact Brenda Spencer. ;)

A well reasoned reply even though I cant possibly comment on the Spencer thing ! Just one criticism, you did lose it at the end ! As you are clearly a tyro on this forum, perhaps a winky emoticon would have made it light hearted and not made me think you were losing it at such an early stage !! ;)
