When Owen Coyle first came to us a friend of mine whose a noblot fan ( yeah I know)
said ” He’ll demoralise your players then he’ll demoralise your fans”.
I Honestly don’t think the players are yet, with the odd probable
exception, but listening to our fans at Blackpool during and after the game many
fans are certainly demoralised.Whats your opinion?

not demoralised, more frustrated at the moment. keep giving teams a start at home, not playing well away. hopefully with the two forwards fit again things will get better in the next couple of games.

I cannot get my head around why Whelan chose him knowing that his style of play would be in contrast to Martinez and everything that Martinez setup…

If anyone thought Martinez didn’t have a clue, I can point you in the direction of a number of publications regarding football strategy and statistics, with one of the books stating that Martinez is a thought leader when it comes to football strategy…maybe an earlier post on here, suggesting Whelan’s reluctance to back Martinez financially, is correct.

But that isn’t true.
Burnley, under Coyle, were widely praised for their attractive style of play, and he even got Bolton away from hoofball and playing nice football. (see links at the bottom of this post if you can’t remember)
I went on a corporate freebie to watch Bolton v Arsenal a couple of seasons ago and was pleasantly surprised with the way Coyle had them playing – and that’s coming from one of the biggest admirers of ‘the Martinez way’.
I don’t know why he has had us hoofing it long at times. I definitely didn’t expect us to be doing that under Coyle, and he wasn’t my first choice of replacement for Martinez, but I very much doubt he’ll be going anywhere until at least the end of the season.
I thought we’d turned a corner against Maribor and then Blackburn – insomuch as we were playing it on the ground, but we started launching it again against Blackpool.
Hopefully he’ll get back to his footballing principles and come good.

We have a superior squad of midfield players, but in games our midfield seems to operate without any guidance. Gomez is bound to hesitate if there isn’t anyone to pass to. McClean and McManaman will dribble on until they lose the ball if they have no other instruction.
Like our midfield, I don’t know where we’re going.
Have things changed because in my heady days of school football the whole point of being a midfield player was to prevent the opposition from mounting any form of attack and when yourself was in possesion you looked to form some sort of attack not hard really is it
We are obviously missing Maloney. Not sure what’s going on with Espinoza ? The two front men are supposedly fit now and so that will improve things. The main excuse many gave for Martinez for finally succumbing to the drop was injuries and so what is the difference now ? To have both our strikers and our most influential midfielder injured is surely a big problem is it not !

My opinion is that a good portion of our supporters get easily demoralised – to be more precise they get “demoralised” when we do not win.
We had more or less all of the game for the first 20 minutes during which time we passed the ball about well on the whole and created a number of good opportunities.
If Nick Powell hadn’t missed the open goal with his header then we would have been in strong position to go on and win.
The penalty turned the tide for a while but we could easily had been back level by half time.
The 2 substitutions came with plenty of time left and we were unlucky not to score (statistically we had the most off target shots of any team at weekend) at least once or twice during the 2nd half during which time, other than the last 3 minutes, we kept Blackpool pretty much pegged back.
It would be nice to win every week but we do not have a divine right to do so.

lets face it , he’s had no time to rebuild a team and is still struggling to find a settle starting 11. The one thing I didn’t understand Saturday was , why didn’t Powell start in the middle or move there as the game went on and one or both front men come on ?. He was always causing the Blackpool back line problems with his movement in the first half. we definatly lacked someone like Powell or Rodger running from the middle at Blackpools back line, Watson and Gomez were 2 alike stroking the ball around.
Coyle needs time , something we haven’t got as the rest of the pack slowly move away from us.
We are obviously missing Maloney.

I’m happy to get behind Coyle it’s just hard to swallow when we can’t score away from home yet start with a midfielder up top.As for the case that after the substitutions we had time to put it right then I personally see it as 65 mins wasted.I mean coyle did moan enough during september about his injury woes and having no luck with both his strikers available yet doesn’t start with them.

Frankly, I can’t see the benefit of having McClean on the right other than to try to build up his confidence by giving him game-time.
But…I’m not a football manager…
