24 October 2013 at 1:25 am #122618To have both our strikers and our most influential midfielder injured is surely a big problem is it not !
And there lies the problem. To go into a season with just two recognised strikers in the squad is criminal. For them both to then get injured is very unlucky but is also deserved punishment.
24 October 2013 at 2:18 am #122619I do think that he should have started with one of our recognised strikers though !
I’d like to think he thought neither of them were fit enough to play from the start.
What’s the difference with playing mins 0-30 and mins 60-90 ?
A huge difference. Main one being that at 60-90, most of the rest other players are not at their best either.
Not so sure about that, I thought the last 20 mins or so were the liveliest for both sides ! :)
24 October 2013 at 3:03 am #122623In the early premiership years we hardly seemed to have anybody out for a length of time it’s just been these last eighteen months that have caught up with us
24 October 2013 at 4:53 am #122624We ended up with a smaller squad in the Premier League. There would be more pressure to play with a knock – look at Caldwell last season.
Did he get any recognition from the fans for his sacrifice? No, certainly not.

Perhaps because we brought on two strikers who were just about fit enough to cause havoc for 20 minutes. Blackpool were lively because we left gaping holes in midfield and at the back as we pressed for a goal.
It’s not hard Phil,, try to keep up. ;)

Are you suggesting that players were tiring after an hour of playing football with a 20 min break thrown in and after an international break ! Rubbish !

Phil, you must be being deliberately thick or argumentative or both.
It is an indisputable fact that the fitness level of a footballer will deteriorate during a match. I never said they would be tired, but clearly stamina levels will decline as the game wears on. I have a mate who says players should be collapsing with cramp on 90 minutes, otherwise they have not expended all their energy reserves. He has a point, to an extent.
Aren’t you a little weaker at the end of a day of climbing ladders and squeezing sponges than you are at the start. Note I never said tired.
24 October 2013 at 4:38 pm #122639Coyle did have another option that would have given him a more conventional formation;
Start with one forward and replace him when he got tired.
Each might last 45 minutes but, if not, Coyle would still have two more substitutes to call upon.
1 December 2013 at 10:57 pm #124169Just thought i’d bring this back to the top and see what your thoughts are after
3 home defeats in eight days.1 December 2013 at 11:37 pm #124178Worth bringing back to the message board – he was right – the players look like they don’t give a shit and I am totally demoralised – seriously considering not turning up again until DW gets rid of him.
We have quality players and they either sit on the bench or play like lower league players – why ? it can only be down to Coyle!
DW – you made the mistake – fix it!!!
