I have remained silent and have been trying to give him the benefit of the doubt but my gut reaction was not good and he has done nothing to convince me otherwise. watching the cummunity cup alone depressed me.
The missus points out that bobby got us relegated (i hang on to the loss of alcaraz and ramis as being the real reason) but i cry when i see how he has so quickly dismantled all the hard work of the last 4 years – and with that squad we should be kicking ass! just remember how our b team destroyed championship opposition last year!
we look like a mid table championship side.
22 October 2013 at 9:46 pm #122564Frankly, I can’t see the benefit of having McCann on the right other than to try to build up his confidence by giving him game-time.I think you mean McClean!
And there’s little point in playing Maloney out on the right wing either. If he isn’t going to have the chance to take charge of midfield, it doesn’t really matter if he’s injured or not.

I do mean McClean! (have amended my post…)And I agree with regards to Maloney.
22 October 2013 at 11:17 pm #122568we are playing two or three games a week at the moment and coyle has to rotate the squad regularly which doesnt help. i agree we are missing maloney and the two forwards being fit again will help matters. dont forget we are a new team with a new manager and it will take time for things to start going our way, utd arn’t cracking any pots at the moment with a new manager, and with games coming thick and fast i will reserve judgment on coyle until after the christmas fixtures and see where we are then.

From Matlock to ManU
What a journey!22 October 2013 at 11:57 pm #122570I agree time is the essence and lets see where we are in January and make our judgements then about our new manager and team.
I think that 4-0 drubbing of Barnsley on the opening day lifted expectations to ridiculous levels that were never going to be acheived given the away games at some very tough high flying teams even Bournemouth have done better than expected!
They have only been narrow defeats and to be honest we could easily be sat on a few more points if luck had ran our way.
.The home form has been superb 11 points from a possible 15 and if we kept up the present ratio we will be around the play off positions come the end of the season.Very few teams will fancy coming here and how long is it since we could say that?
My prediction is the play offs even without any additions in January but to be honest I’m not bothered I’m just enjoying it all and not taking it too seriously.23 October 2013 at 1:29 am #122572IMHO the really good managers are the ones who can identify and rectify their own shortcomings. O C and Martinez have the same downfalls as the majority of managers, stubborness. It always seems to be their way or no way.RM is just as bad as Coyle for sticking to the plan he thinks is fireproof. We need to lose the negativity away from and go at teams.Too many managers have been stubborn into the job centre, you would think that the penny would drop sooner or later.
23 October 2013 at 3:33 am #122573They have only been narrow defeats and to be honest we could easily be sat on a few more points if luck had ran our way. The home form has been superb…But luck has run our way at home. Without it, we could easily have had several points fewer. The results may have been good, but the form has been indifferent.
Wigan 2 Doncaster 2 – Maloney free kick and last minute equalizer by Barnett
Wigan 2 Middlesbrough 2 – late equalizer from Gomez free kick
Wigan 2 Ipswich 0 – Carson Man of the Match; last minute goal by Powell to make game safe;
Wigan 2 Blackburn 1 – last minute winner by Boyce; Blackburn played with 10 men for an hourAnd none of these opponents are high fliers.

Most of the above and Forest who were top of the league when we played them are fairly established Championship clubs and I don’t remember too many comfortable home or away wins the last time we played in this division.
if similar results had occurred away we would be sitting near the top of the league but I’m realistic and with the crop of players that have been brought in -the play offs is a realistic target this season.23 October 2013 at 12:35 pm #122579I do think that he should have started with one of our recognised strikers though !I’d like to think he thought neither of them were fit enough to play from the start.

What’s the difference with playing mins 0-30 and mins 60-90 ?

Because he’d prefer not to play them at all until they were full fit, but as we were losing he had no option.23 October 2013 at 2:49 pm #122586I do think that he should have started with one of our recognised strikers though !

Is it bad luck or is there some underlying problem maybe todo with the training and actual playing techniques ? I read an article on the subject ages ago and seeing as we always seem to have quite a few ongoing injuries wondered if it was related !

A huge difference. Main one being that at 60-90, most of the rest other players are not at their best either.

That is a fair question!
I dont know the quality of the training surface but we sure get a lot of cold weather in this part of the world which maybe effects it.
Training facilities were certainly a talking point for Martinez including a fully functional indoor pitch.
