That’s how it should be Oz we should have German prices for games with subsidies for away tickets then add free public travel (there goes that flying pig again)not in this country its always us the fans who pay, even though at Sunderland a while back it was free buses to the Stadium.

Who pays for it tho grumps?

The cost of the coaches, drivers wages fuel etc. In this land you don’t get anything for nothing.

Yes they do, after we spent a century draining their country of natural resources and enforcing our language and culture on them. But that’s also another story!!

I know what you mean but I’d start at the top with premiership clubs passing their wealth on to all clubs and their supporters so they can fund travel and tickets, I know I’m in cuckoo land on this but the money they get and pay players is bloody ridiculous, it would hopefully then push up attendances and stop clubs going to the wall.

More people will come the better we do, it’s as simple as that.

I remember having the conversation with JJ several years ago on what the best way to get bodies into the stadium was, the absolute answer was – WIN MATCHES – it is fool proof.[/quote]

Jayt Wouldn’t it be better to employ a undertaker at the club if its the best way to get bodies in ?

You’re opening a can of worms here SW.

I imagine that most fans travelling by bus to games are relatively near to the stadium or town centre anyway. When I was younger and used the bus from Shevvy hardly anyone was on apart from myself and Jeff Rourke. What does it cost these days,3 quid maybe. I doubt it would increase our fanbase even if the buses were free to games. Folk either want to go in which case they will come what may or they wont.

Over here in Perth if you buy any sporting ticket, Football, AFL, Cricket, Basketball, Rugby, whatever, your ticket covers public transport to and from the venue (which is just as well seeing as the new Optus Stadium which holds 60000 has about 3 parking spaces).

All sporting clubs are private entities in their own right but the public transport system is state run.

                  It works a treat.

Difference here tho Oz is how big is Perth and the outlying areas. Wigan is surrounded by other towns and Cities all who have their own teams to support. When football is on in Perth how many different teams are vying for support in say a 20 mile radius. When Latics have a game there is countless other games on within that same area. We can argue the toss as to why our crowds are small but the answer is always going to be the same. Too many teams in the area to try and widen our appeal. No amount of subsidised or free public transport will change it I’m afraid.

                    Good point.

Perth Glory (football) nearest away match is in Adelaide which is 2700km away, every other sport is a similar story with the exception of when the Fremantle Dockers play the West Coast Eagles (AFL) as they are both in the same town, Perth.

I wish they’d put on free transport for when Perth Glory play Wellington Phoenix. Just a wee 5300kms away in New Zealand….!!!!

The quality of the A League is shithouse, which is probably why Warren Joyce is coaching over here ;-)
