I wondered whether having a lad and dad (lass and mam) ticket for £22for the South Stand might be a goer. The lass and lad must be under 16 though (not 11).
As it is now, for a parent to go to the game with an 11-16 year old it would cost £30/£35/£38.
There would be extra income gained from programme, drink and food as well.
Honestly, if we go any cheaper with the offers, we’ll not have a club much longer.
And for as good as these cheap offers are, once again the season ticket holders, who are the lifeblood of the club are being done. Why? I hear you ask. Because we have tipped up our cash in the summer, and when you get people getting in for a fiver, or whatever, I don’t think it’s fair. Even a small gesture, like ‘You can go to the ticket office and collect a voucher (they mark off your season ticket) for £5 for redemption against food and drink in the stadium’ would at least give something back to the season ticket holders.
Remember, we were told 2 or 3 seasons ago that a reward was in the pipeline. Still waiting…..
Dictator,ex chilean president and good friend of Margaret Thatcher, Augusto Pinochet would have a few ideas -now he knew how to fill a football stadium.
The smokers corner idea would certainly help, each corner of the ground is open with nothing there, can’t see why smokers can’t have a cig there, at least when you watch the game at the pub you can nip outside, many smokers now choose this option.
Griff, to people who smoke it is an issue ! That’s not my only idea, I was just agreeing with someone. At the moment money is very tight for lots of people in Wigan and surrounding areas, ticket prices are a major factor on gates, I felt £28 was quite steep for a midweek game, even if it was Liverpool, £20 would have been better.
A decent bar for fans to go to before and after the game would be good, maybe the old Kudos bar.
I don’t know how much the club does with marketing surrounding areas such as Skem and St.Helens but I would have thought incentives for people to come in from out of town would be worth a try.

I can’t recall seeing much around Skem, though you’d be surprised how many Latics fans come from the area. I’ve noticed a few schools from Skem in the community ‘free ticket’ things in the programme, but that’s all. My mate told me his younger (step) brother had gone to a Latics game with his school, and he said it was ‘crap’. But then again, their whole family are die-hard Everton fans.
However, I believe there is a plan in the pipeline by the club to enhance matchday attendances, specifically by targetting the people on the outskirts of the borough, and surrounding towns. It’ll take a bit of time to organize, but keep peeled. ;)
My brother takes his 2 sons in the south stand for £300 for the season. I don’t think the club can do much better than that, however, the single match prices e.g £28 for Liverpool are out of the reach of most floating supporters.
If you are on or around mininum wage, that is about half a days pay i.e a tenth of your weekly earnings assuming you work five days.
I know this isn’t the same for everyone but a majority of people would fall within this bracket and with low disposable income, it becomes increasing difficult to find spare cash.
I just think that more free tickets should go out to a wider range of schools for the south stand. I think the club should perhaps pursue a campaign which targets benefits for season ticket holders getting more people to the games.
EG. You can bring a mate for say £15 quid if you bring 2 mates they get two tickets for £20.
My family are not football fans but i’ve taken my dad to watch the games and he has always enjoyed them, and now regularly gets to the games.
One final offer could be to get tickets for certain games like for united liverpool chelsea and arsenal £70 or something like that.
Maybe do a “Buy a ticket for the United/Liverpool/Chelsea etc.. game & get discounted prices for the Fulham/West Brom/Wolves etc.. game/s” promotion
or a ticket whereby you get 1 cat A, 1 cat b & 1 cat c game for a price lower than you’d pay to buy all 3 separately
Only thing is if there are only 12k on to see us play Liverpool at home whether there is enough floating interest out there which would persuade em to buy a joint ticket for other games
