Any team that beats Brazil deserves to win the World Cup! I heard a stat the other day that they have only conceded something like 5 goals in their last 25 games! Now that is impressive stuff!

When it worked it was magnificent. When it didn’t it could be tedious.

I have to agree with donny and otter here, the football under Roberto was very tedious and boring for a lot of games under his tenure.
On occasions, when it clicked it was magnificent to watch, and in theory is how football should be played, but unfortunately we didn’t have the players with enough quality to maintain that style.
Each season we had players of a lesser quality as the better players got sold off, and the inevitable happened in the end.
Winning the FA Cup was a magnificent achievement for a club of our stature especially in the circumstances with the budgetory restraints.
That said, if the style of football we played in the latter stages of the FA Cup had been adopted in a few more of the league games I think we would have stayed up for at least another season.

Bobby didn’t have the calibre of player to serve up the kind of football we would have all wanted to see week in week out horc. He was always battling relegation and even with the smallest budget and not being able to pay the wages to bring real class into the club he kept us in there longer than everyone in the game expected.

Question for bullit,

Do you also hate PJ in the same way coz he also left sharpish and after a most successful first season in the Prem. And has it ever dawned on you that Mr Whelan may have urged Bobby to join Everton. We all knew he thought the world of him and always said he would be at a massive club someday.

No i dont hate Paul Jewell what he did for us was magnificent, i don’t hate Martinez either i just don’t understand why some people are tossing themselves off at the thoughts of him and Belgium winning the world cup.

As stated earlier in this thread, he’s just an ex Latics manager that thought the grass was greener at Everton, and look what happened there?

I cant see him ever managing a big club, he must pinch himself everyday after landing the Belgium job!

Fuck the EFL

He took us down and should have stayed at least one more season to try to get us back, he looked out for himself and went to Everton.

Hope he doesn’t win another trophy ever, i’ll be rooting for Brazil!

How do you live your life with such bitterness? He took us down, yes, but there was a small matter of an fa cup win. One of the best days of my life.

I wouldn’t trade another year in the premier league for that, and if you would then, fair play, but I think you’re mad as well as bitter.

I remember being at the Swansea game before the final. If we’d won that we’d probably stayed up. But I wouldn’t in a million years trade that for a loss at Wembley. And, looking at the championship table right now, I doubt there’s a Swansea fan that would not prefer winning an fa cup over their achievements since.

I think it’s brilliant what Roberto may achieve and the only scenario I won’t be cheering him on is a Belgium-England final
I think you’re missing the point, the FA Cup win was the greatest day in the clubs history and i wouldn’t swap it for anything, if Martinez would have stuck around another season to at least try and get us promoted i wouldn’t have a problem.

No one is talking about swapping the FA Cup win to stay in the Prem!
So, if Martinez had not won the FA Cup but kept us the Premier League and still left that would have been OK with you?

No wonder people think Wiganers are thick as pig shit!

You’re all moaning bastards as well

Nail on head Nunny lad.

We didnt have the player to play like Brazil but we still tried to at times and it worked at times. Some times we had to play to our skill set and that made for games where we were painful to watch because the result was the most important aspect. It worked for a few years.

Horc – Maybe the numerous injuries and team changes meant we couldnt play that style? Then again it was probably the fact we had more freedom in the cup. We couldnt afford to lose in the league so tried to protect the point we kicked off with. Every team in our position does it.

We had four years in the Greed League before Bob. His four years were by far the most boring and un-interesting to watch. Previous managers kept us up without the sideways and backwards monotonous passing game but he was one of ours so good luck Bob in your career.

Bob had the budget slashed season after season to make us break even though donny

Yes I will definitely concede that and the job he did at the end of 2012 should go down as the greatest escape ever in the history of the first division / premier league.

An ex tic, cracking lad, leads his side to the World cup semi-final. Fantastic.
6 years a player. 4 years a manager, his longest service to any club in both rolls.
Involved in charity work and bringing teams together every year.
Well done Bob, absolutely fantastic.

Bloody Brilliant Bobby Brown Shoes !

The TV pundits were just willing Brazil to score; a bit reminiscent of the old anti Latics days in the Premier League. But Bobby came good. Well chuffed for him !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
