I understand what you mean but we had so much land at Springfield and with some help rather than hindrance from the council (The Devil Incarnate) access and further parking could have been made on four sides quite easily. We could have fit The New York Stadium in there no problem with plenty more car parking spaces available behind the Shevvy and Town ends.
Not much point in talking about it now though as we moved to and contributed to the development of New Springfield with the sale of Springy and the grants we received from the football trust.

The parking on Springfield and ingress/egress to Springfield rd would have been a nightmare with Championship or Premiership crowds’
I loved Springfield Park and lived on St Andrews Drive till 1981 but it had had it’s day.
The houses on St Andrews Drive were actually built by two latics directors Les and Harold Jackson not sure if they bought the land from the club or not but we may have had enough room for an extended Springy if the land was empty.
My only gripe with the DW is that the concourse in the South/North stand is too small I believe that is why the away capacity is reduced. The concourse in the South has been badly managed with proper organised queues for the food and drink only just being introduced it’s impossible to get to the toilets at half time if theres anything like a big crowd.

We couldn’t put turnstiles on the St Andrew’s Side, nor could the height of the stand s be increased & we didn’t own the land behind the town end. To have made a bigger stadium would either have involved buying up all the surrounding houses (as Liverpool did) &/or moving the pitch – getting planning permission to develop Springfield Park when all the houses were already in situ would have been nigh on impossible

I’m aware of some alleged shenanigans involving the council & the town’s sporting sides but I do know that they were helpful with pushing the JJB through. They even broke their own planning regulations to do it which I think came to light when that scrap yard owner took them to court

And for what it’s worth, the sale of Springfield Park did not fund the building of the JJB in any way, shape or form[/quote]
We could have quite easily have put a seated stand up on the town end. We had a training pitch behind the terrace and behind the goals was a huge bow. The back of a steep rising one or two tiered stand could quite easily have been just a little past the first row of terrace if the perimeter wall was similar to New Springfield. This would have left 40-50 metres of land behind the stand which is much more than at New Springfield. Access to a pop side stand could have been similar to the Riverside stand at Ewood. Even larger stands could have been erected on the Shevvy End and Main Stand side.
        Alas it wasn’t to be.
They quite easily managed to get a stack of house built on there.

          Or Swinton. Or Dublin.

          Ken Yun considered them.
