Think he could take us forward. Would very much like to see him given a while. We won’t go down and he may sign some good uns in Jan.. You never know :)
wasn’t that what his supporters were saying this time 12 months ago ?
oh and the need to clear the deadwood that bruce had signed was mentioned as well
well the deadwood has gone and its now martinez’s men in place – so where is the improvement i keep being told of[/quote]
And by the same token, wasn’t some supporters constantly coming on here 12 months ago saying he would get us relegated?
From Matlock to ManU
What a journey!4 January 2011 at 4:45 pm #54683you should do your research thoroughly into the subject before making a fool of yourself.these are the actual points totals
2010/11 19 games 20 points
2009/10 19 games 19 points
2008/9 19 games 28 points – bruce pre the big sale
2007/8 19 games 16 points -hutchins(4pts bruce)
2006/07 19 games 22 points -jewell 2nd seasonmy point is
the only man who’s points total was slightly worse than martinez was sacked after 17 games despite the fact his team played better football than the rubbish served up now – he didnt get ousted out of both cup competitions, a 4-1 hammering from a championship side or 2 disgraceful murderings against a 3rd division side – he didnt get hammered 9-1, 8-0,5-0 twice or 4-0 against the team that was bottom all season
jewell suffered from second season syndrome and had lost much of his 1st. season squad.now you asked what my point was – i think i will ask again—— what improvements can you see ?
I’ll concede 2008/9, but your wrong on 2006/7, we still only had 19 points until February.

The point I was making is that the thing in common with these points at this stage (except this season, because who knows…) and the fact that we didn’t get relegated. So except for one season, we are no worse off, or even better off than the previous years survivals.
Some people have a vendetta against a representative of Wigan Athletic Football Club and other than a dislike for his ‘style’ can’t really come up with anything new to say other than insults. You see how I managed that without calling you names?

100% effort from every player, play your best team and play with passion and pride that is what I want and expect from my team. We will never be the best team in the league but if the players give everything and were still not good enough I can accept that.
But IMO we could be so much better with someone else in charge even with the current squad.4 January 2011 at 6:27 pm #54694I’ll concede 2008/9, but your wrong on 2006/7, we still only had 19 points until February.

can you answer me where you get the name calling accusation from ?
do you mean me saying someone who uses statistics to back up an arguement, when in fact those statistics are wrong is making a fool of ones self ?so what would that same person be if they did it a second time and responded to my accusation of poor research, by saying i am wrong and even posting a link to back it up, when in fact the page that they are basing their argument on is totaly inaccurate.
if you care to check your own link and look at the results in october 2006 you will find that 3 of the 4 results in that month are incorrect.
it shows heskey scoring in a 4 – 0 loss away at blackburn (2-1), baines scoring in a 2-0 loss v man utd (1-2) – and the one that stands out a mile to any TRUE wigan athletic fan, (and the 3 points you are missing from your total), a 2 – 3 home loss to man city(4 – 0),
apart from the fact that the scorers column shows we scored 4 goals anybody who knows anything about us would know that city have never beaten us at home in the premier league until this season.“You see how I managed that without calling you names”
i will leave that to others.5 January 2011 at 2:20 pm #54756Going back to our attendances and fans dropping, I wonder why we got so many away fans in the Championship compared to now? e.g 4,000 to Leeds??

5 January 2011 at 4:15 pm #54768Unfortunatly if Whelan got rid of Martinez i would imagine that would seriously affect the kitty for the January window so i think were stuck with him until the end of the season at least.
Dont know how much it would cost but i should it would cost a few mill to get rid.
So if where stuck with him we have to get behind him although i dont think hes the man for the job.
Back to the original post, I’m not sure why it would cost millions to get rid. He’s half way through a three-year deal. So assuming he is on a million a year, which he’s not, he’d only have to be paid off a maximum of £1.5m. And that never happens anyway. And even if he was paid off, DW has presumably already budgeted for that cost so all he would be doing is paying it out a bit earlier than he planned to. Therefore, at worst, it’s nothing but a minor cash flow issue for a man supposedly worth about £200 million.
But I agree that we do need to get behind him ;)
