Absolute disaster.I will not be renewing my season ticket. Players will want to leave and he will not be able to attract the right players. Just wait for the Burnley and Bolton rejects.

Steven Fletcher £12m, Gary Cahill £7m, Jay Rodriguez £7m – no, I don’t think so.

And Big Fat Sam has had his pick of the rest.

, which is disappointing because we spent 3 hard seasons adapting to the new style.

Even we didnt adapt to it in 3 seasons.
Cum on lets give him a chance

When he took over at Bolton he tried to play football the right way & move away from fat sams long ball game,so good luck from me to the guy.hope he buys a nice suit :)

Did he? He may have said that was what he was trying to do but if he did he certainly failed in an abysmal fashion.
Coyle did introduce a very attractive style at Bolton, who looked much better going forward than defending.

Before the 2011/12 season, Bolton lost Sturridge and Elmander and did not replace either. They suffered shocking pre-season injuries and then had a very tough start to their fixtures. They never really recovered.

Cahill left in January 2012 and then Bolton lost Muamba. Even so, they were not relegated until the last match of the season.

There are lots of similarities there with Wigan’s situation last season.

Can’t say i’m joyous about the appointment but he’s our manager now so no one should be screwing him before he’s got through the door.Time will tell but I for one agree with rolling contract. If he under performs then its tatty bye at no huge expense ,if he succeeds he will have huge bonuses written in his contract.Makes it performance related, wish we could get some idle players on same deals.

        Very attractive my arse :cheer:

Its bog standard direct football that in terms of our footballing philosophy is one giant step backwards.

None the less it may get us out of the Championship but I am dissapointed we didnt go down the route Swansea did and try and have a bit of continuation from the previous regime.

Some of the Bolton players commented on Dougie Freedman in the fact that since he took charge they were more tactically aware of how to play football.

They also talked about the more specialised training sessions and the sports science Freedman had implemented in regards to treating injuries.

Does he remind you of anyone?

How will the players react to the flipside of that story? He will be talking to players who have spent the last 4+ years working on game to game tactics to the finest detail.

I fear if he comes in and looks tactically naive to the players he will lose the respect of the dressing room very quickly.

It is better, of course, for players to say that their new manager is better than his predecessor. Freedman is still in the Championship. His old team, Crystal Palace, will kick off this season in the Premier League under Ian Holloway. But perhaps Freedman will enjoy the season more than Holloway.

I agree that Martinez worked on game tactics to the finest detail. However, many posters here – the majority I would say – criticised his tactics – and even called him tactically naive.

Coyle has got a reasonable cup record. In 2008/9, Burnley beat Chelsea and Arsenal in the League Cup. They lost to Spurs in the semi-final, but would have won had the away goals rule applied. Promotion to the Premier League followed in the play-offs.

He took Bolton to an FA Cup semi-final against Stoke which they lost 5-0. They won their next league game at home to Arsenal and stood eighth in the Premier League. After that it was all downhill. They finished the season with five losses in a row.

There’s another similarity with Wigan. Success in the FA Cup was followed by relegation.

Freedman left palace sat at the top of the table firing from all cylinders. He then took coyle’s Bolton from 18th in the championship to just missing out on a play off place.

People are citing Coyles championship pedigree as a good reason for his appointment where as to me it seems to be 50/50.

Why don’t we all just wait and see?

David Whelan was quoted as admitting he is not right all the time. My own opinion is that he quickly finds out if he has made a mistake (not necessarily based on initial results) and acts accordingly. If he feels he has made the wrong choice he will sack him but if he thinks things are moving in the right direction he will stand by him.

I don’t claim to know the exact detail of Owen Coyle’s management history and can’t be bothered researching it. Neither was I present at the interview process so I will do what I have always done and make my own mind up whilst watching the live games.

You’re thinking of Allardyce and Megson.

Coyle changed the way Bolton played.

I went on a corporate do to watch Bolton v Arsenal a couple of season ago and I was very impressed with the football they played.

At times they made Arsenal look pretty average.

Year on Year rolling contract What is Whelan thinking of !!!!!!!

Same as always, Himself and money.
Hang on lets give him a 4yr contract, and like some on here are saying if its going tits up after 10-15 games we can get shut, so is it to be 12mths pay out or 4yrs payout money we havent got for things like that :pinch:

              #116191

It’s a rolling contract so the carrot is always there in front of him, he always has twelve months security, but we don’t have to pay out huge amounts if it goes pear shaped.

What’s wrong with that? Sounds an excellent bit of business to me.
