PS. Do you know where I could get hold of a copy of the Sunderland v Coventry City programme from 9th August 1969.

Knowing Coventry’s history for delaying things, you’ll probably be able to pick one up in about 2 weeks!

HORC, you need it for Friday? The whole thing or certain pages. I’ve got a mate at work who has been a season ticket holder for about 40 years. He may have one, but may not want to give it away for ever. If it is certain pages I may be able to scan those pages to you.

Didn’t see any of that in the article. They refer to us as a small club who will see Cardiff as a scalp. I’d say that’s pretty much bob on. We’re a small club and they are favourites to go up.

          Disagree.

We are NOT a small club. Havent been for some time. A ‘small club’ don’t go out and spend 12 mil on new players. Nor do I see Cardiff as a ‘scalp’. Their team, on paper, and as it happens on the pitch,is no better than ours. As it proved. The fact they had Gary Madine up front always had me hopeful beforehand anyway. Oh and I was right about they Ralls being a handy player.

A small club doesnt get a 13k home attendance, at a time when a lot of Wiganers are still off on their jollies. If we are a small club, so are Preston, Blackburn, etc, based on this kind of thinking.

Sick of us being seen as a small club…we arent. We are a thriving club, definitely, and one thats on the way back up. Very worthy of our place in the Championship, and definitely not a small club. I told a Cardiff fan online that they just looked like your standard Championship side…hard working, tight, well drilled. I.E. Middlesborough, Hull, Brentford, Bristol City, and so on and so forth. 90% of teams in this league are the same.
But I think we are in the other 10%, I really do. I think Derby County are as well, as it happens.
Cheers GG. Its my mates 50th on Friday and he is obviously a Sunderland fan, so I was looking to get hold of the programme from the day he was born.
I wouldn’t expect it for free, so if your mate has it, or can get hold of one I am willing to buy it. If you don’t mind asking him, it would be much appreciated.

P.S. Don’t forget, there’s a bonus week on the guess the gate comp.

We were laughing our bollocks off on Saturday, at the state of the Worriers ‘shop’ by way of a trailer on the arena car park. “Gypsy Joe’s Bazaar”

Only there until they finish building the new shop and bar in the arena
When are you moving in there to play your matches?
They just need to widen and reinforce the seats

Vat, I’m really sorry to disagree with you. But what in your opinion constitutes as a big club. You raise some points in your post, but we are far from a big club.

We’re not even close to being a big club and as for the 13k home attendance there were probably 9,000 home fans tops.
I never said we are a big club, but we are not a small club either.

In fact, if you were to compare every club out of the Premier League, and Football League over the last 20 years, we would probably come in the top 30 clubs, judged on successes and achievements.

There are many clubs who would love to achieve what we have and what we are.

Dont judge us as small just because Wiganers are lazy fickle bastards who wont get behind their local club unless its on the brink of achievement. 13k on on Saturday, come May if we have a decisive game, another 10,000 will crawl out of the woodwork, we all know that.

I don’t know why you are getting so agitated about this VAT. If we are perceived to be a small club, whatever your definition of that may be, then so be it. Take pleasure in the fact we’ve provoked a Billy big bollocks club or, even better, one that think they are by spanking their bums.

We sing “Little Wigan taking the piss” FFS so it can’t be said we’re trying to change that perception.

Why 20 years? Is that figure carefully selected to justify your claim? Why not the last century, when Cardiff’s honours board is pretty stacked with trophies and 17 seasons in the top flight. Alternately, why not over the past 6 years when they have spent 2 seasons in the top flight and never finished lower than 11th in the Championship?

IMHO, you are being disrespectful to Cardiff City, not the other way round.

If you use the same criteria for your beloved Sunderland, what size of a club would you class yourselves as?
