For various personal reasons I’ve not been interested in or able to follow the recent events since Uwe’s sacking, but having now seen/read how things have unfolded I’m sad to say that for the first time in over 30 years of supporting my beloved Latics I’m genuinely embarrassed to be a supporter of this wonderful club.
No fans, 9-1, rugby town, whatever – never bothered me one bit.
But we have now fallen foul of yet another snap decision and idiotic remarks by our loon of a chairman. Win, lose or draw, at the end of the day I’ve loved our club because of what we’ve striven for, achieved and ultimately stood for.
But in the last few days any lingering sentiment anyone’s ever had for little Wigan has been evaporated – and at a time when we don’t need off-field attention distracting us from our current predicament.I pray and hope MM is charged by the FA and has his contract terminated by us, as it’s the only way we’ll retain any shred of decency and morals in a game that is severely lacking in either.
Arguably the lowest point in our illustrious history.

So I guess you’ve never been to a Chinky, or even had any racist, sexist, defamatory, homophobic thoughts flash through your mind. The very fact that you refer to our Chairman as a loon makes you equally guilty. Oops, have you tripped over your own halo ?
I’ve never been or ever will be embarrassed supporting Latics. The Zionist media should be ashamed of the witch hunt against Whelan, a man who has done more for this community than most. I have been watching Latics for 38 years, what I saw on sky last night was well over the top. If I was Whelan I wouldn’t do any more interviews for a while because all they want is to see him say the slightest controversial thing then jump on it. What ever anyone thinks, because of Dave Whelan I have seen the best footballing moments in my life at this club and before all this, people have a go at him on this and other sites, which is out of order. If you don’t like what has happened don’t go. If we get promoted there will be plenty of part timers turn up again
For me we have signed the best manager we could have got for our club. I would love it if we got a massive crowd on sat to show support, (don’t think we will),

I couldn’t care less what the media or fans of other clubs think about us. TBH I prefer being hated. As a Wigan rugby fan you get used to it.
Can understand your point of view Galactic just like I could understand James McCleans right to live up to his principals but how can you critisise Whelan for using a derogatory term and use an offensive word like Loon yourself.

Far too late for that, I’m afraid. Malky’s actual appointment as team manager/coach is the only good thing to come out of this whole sorry mess.
I think the embarrassment comes from the situation this has created and now engulfs the club rather than what was said.
I think we need to get some press releases out like this one. I have a feeling Boycey is on a damage limitation exercise of his own.

Whelan is old school and set in his ways which isn’t a crime in my view! Loads of people of that ilk still say ‘Chinky’ instead of Chinese when talking about Chinese takeaways, I know I do! Loads of folk still refer to Jewish people being careful with money, why is that offensive? I have told a few ‘Jewish’ jokes over the years! There is an issue with the homophobic and racist remarks though that cannot simply be brushed under the carpet. The FA should make a decision on what they are going to do and quickly, then we can get on with the game of football!

We will be hated for demonstrating what an insular little club we are, and whose chairman – basically, the figurehead of the club – supports racist views.
He may have apologised, but the damange has been done no matter how much back-tracking and grovelling he’s conducting throught the press.
It’s hard enough attracting sponsors to the club without Mr Whelan’s comments. Now they are withdrawing their support.
I’m sure a lot of people have thought the things Mr Whelan said, but that’s they are not the sort of things to be said to the national media.
I’ve supported Whelan in the past and been one of his biggest defenders, but this time he has overstepped the mark and his comments are going to cost the club money, supporters, and reputation.
