Maybe the editing was as bad as MOTDs but I didn’t anywhere near five times that Gomez gave the ball away.
Yes it (the editing) was….you really had to be at the game (and I know you were). He gave the ball away too many times (more than you “saw”)
and I counted three very good tackles that he made. There may have been more.
Strewth!……….Opta stats must be quivering. “Three?”….you are ‘avin a larff…… The boy is definately ‘tackle shy’ – indeed when he was forced into a stop he used his hip (classic move for the smaller man) to stop the opponent – he did this once and stopped after a warning from the ref…There were no more.
But WTF does an ex-pro know?
errrmmmm
Paul Merson
Matt le Tissier
Andy Gray
ohhhhh….and my all time favorite –
he will be a bench warmer or worse within a month and you know it
if you care to read what i said for a change you will see i said he had the best game i have ever seen him play for us but he is just to slow for this league –
martinez’s first league game in charge for us saw another player with immense talent have one his best ever games for us, a player very similar to gomez, and we all hoped this was not another false dawn, but alas it turned out to be just that.
As LMB said please three times, I thought it only fair that I watch Football First. Maybe the editing was as bad as MOTDs but I didn’t anywhere near five times that Gomez gave the ball away.
seems your eyes are as selective as your posting technique, as they only seem to see what you believe, can you point out where i said anything about gomez giving the ball away ? i said he was caught in possession 5 times and that is because he is so slow both in mind and body, i am not and have never questioned his passing ability.
I counted three very good tackles that he made. There may have been more.
i didnt bring up his tackling ability but once again you have already sentenced me, but to be honest you are clutching at straws pointing out his tackling ability.
I also heard Davie Provan say that he had been creative and intelligent all afternoon.
is that the fellow who also said caldwell had “become a solid premiership defender since his move from scotland” in the same programme ?
But WTF does an ex-pro know?
this one tickled most and one i didnt expect from you, but why should i be surprised,
it never ceases to amaze me when people use “experts” to try to legitimise their views, yet bleat and cry if someone dares to say something awful like – poor crowds – rugby town or we dont deserve to be in the premiership like most of the ‘professional pundits’ do every week.
no matter what anyone says in defence of gomez, every now and again he will have a good game, but its not good enough at this level, he is anonymous far to often and even martinez thinks this or he would have played him more often.

He did some good things and a lot of not so good things. Nothing bad enough to warrant the usual hysterical reaction he got.
For those who have ever bothered to read what I write, I’ve said hd hasn’t been worth a place in the team for 18 months. I just wish he’d have managed to step up as required, but he hasn’t. Think he has only been keeping Hugo’s shirt warm for him pre-season

who are you talking about griff ?[/quote]
No need to bring things posted in the past about Gomez in this thread LMB. The issue is about Gomez’s performance today and the comments and player rating you have given him.
I like many others have slated the guy, I’ve also seen the good qualities in him, that unfortunately have come to the surface too few times in a Wigan Athletic shirt.
Now I suggest you too watch football first or a recording of the game, put all your previous thoughts about JG out your head, pretend you’ve never seen him play and give a honest opinion of his performance and overall contribution today, go on I dare you!
…and no I’m not pished up in the early hours of the morning, just suffering with a really bad bout of tinnitus. :angry-banghead:
I was talking about Gomez, of course, and I haven’t changed my view at all. Still surprised he was picked yesterday but at least he was picked in his best position. I, along with many others, thought he had a good game, but you’re right, in an ideal world, unless he improves his speed of thought and action, I would not expect him to be starting.
And for giving the ball away read caught in possession; simple semantics, same result, and they still didn’t show 5 examples of that either.
Micky, if three tackles (which they believe me they definitely did show) are just a worthless stat, then surely so is giving the ball away five times?
Good to see that in a fairly promising performance, and after securing 3 very valuable points, there are some who still insist on finding something to knock.
Griff. I still don’t understand why you bother to rise to this mon. Every weekend whatever the result certain individuals come on here with their negative attitude regardless of performance or result. FFS remember this was the fella that was writing five chorus songs on our demise prematurely in May only to be left with egg on his face again.
fig lost the ball a lot today with his passes, but thought the team played well, if these players didnt lose the ball in a game, I dont think i would be watching them at the DW in a wigan shirt, 5 points out of nine i would of settled for that at the start
yesterday was his best game ever in a latics shirt, he made 3 important blocks/tackles and passed the ball effectively, he wavered around the 70 minute mark and we saw the old gomez return, he was clapped off by most of the ground and deserved it.
Why is it that when we play Gomez in the team everyone has a go at him.
He was 1 of 11 players out there yesterday but unfortunately he is the one who gets the focus.
Figeroa gave the ball away all the match . Diame also gave away a lot of possession.
Caldwell is a liability but Gomez gets all the stick.
Gomez played most of the creative through balls and yes he did get caught with the ball a few times but mostly because no one gave him an option or made a run for him.
It is a shame when so called fans give one of there own so much stick.
The best thing that we can do is encourage him and support the team.
Or am I living in dream land
Up the tics
Had his best game for us by a country mile yesterday in what was a very good team performance. We were by far the better team, talking to 2 QPR fans after the game they agreed.
Two goals scored and a clean sheet, even I’m happy
Over many years, going back to the Geoff Wright days, Latics fans have had to have a whipping boy.
If it wern’t Gomez, it would be somebody else.
So true , at least with Gomez in the team they’re leaving Watson alone.
Anyway , according to this morning’s Mail Jordi was top of the tackles completed yesterday. The stats don’t lie , he’s our new dog of war tackling machine.
