Been a manager isn’t just about the 4-3-3 4-5-1. I would say that it’s as in the word “manage” been able to communicate with players, put an arm round players who can dish out a blocking but 5 minutes later he still commands their respect.
This is what made the likes so Bassett and Warnock not the best but could get the best out of any side by simply man managing players. For me a top manager is someone who has hat uncanny ability of been able to boss a side while still been part of the lads.
Fulham players spoke highly of Parker who gets the best out his players he seems to be of the same mould.
I still think were 3 steps ahead of ourselves here. Hopefully there’s someone out there willing to take a club on like us while everyone’s struggling financially in the biggest recession in modern day historyHe’s stated his desire to come back here on numerous occasions……
Where these occasions when he was in or out of work?
I’d say let’s get an owner in first or there won’t be any need for Jones’s services

Jones appears to be most people choice of new manager. But if he had played for anyone other than latics would he stil be the favorite choice for the job. Being a former player of the club buys a manager time with goodwill and willingness for him to succeed.
He was poor in his only mangerial job so far in a club very much like latics. The excuse for sacking him was cost cutting, this either means he was very expensive, which we cant afford as we are skint, or he was rubbish and they found away to get rid of him.
Lets get new owners and see who applies. We under Whelan rushed into a new manager too quickly, Coyle, McKay and under Sharpe Joyce, they didnt go well.
On the other forum they want the usual people including Big Sam and Warnock, as well as failed managers that get on every rumour list for every job.
Let wait and see who wants it and go from there.If Jones is the best then thats ggreat, but no just because he played for us
If we are going down the much preferred ‘ex player ‘ route then surely there would be a few more suitable candidates knocking about surely ?
Adkins and Jewell should be in the frame in my view assuming the new owners went for the traditional option of appointing an ex player as manager, always been a success at Latics historically.
