2nd half was just a scrappy crappy affair resulting in us conceding yet again another goal from a set piece ! As for Scotland listen carefully because I am only going to say it once….He is NOT good enough full stop ! Remove your rose tinted glasses, wake up and smell the coffee !

I’d love to think that was true but I know you’ll be back spouting the same old drivel, ad nauseum

Thought it had the atmosphere and passion of a local derby, that said was a bit disappointed with our passing game, quite a few of our passes were either short of another player or way overhit. For me that was scotland’s best team performance by a mile, however why he hit his first chance left, with virtually the whole of the goal open to his right indicates his finishing is still championship level, there may be more to come from him, but if we had some half decent strikers he would be on the bench. Yes Hugo missed some chances, all strikers do, but at least he knows where the net is.

My first negative comment of Bobby came yesterday, with Scotland having his best game, why did he not keep him on, put hugo up front and go 4-4-2 after all we were the home team. That said we were the better side yesterday, but one clinical strike says it all in this league.

Charlie was quality and our main threat again yesterday, but was very impressed with James McCarthy who covered nearly every blade of grass, made some cracking tackles and looks an absolute bargain.

Most teams are playing 4-5-1 these days.

Arsenal and United did today. It’s the way of the game, I think.

Why on earth would I seek out your company? Ninety minutes at a football match is more than enough.

To play that system (or any other for that matter) successfully you need players with the technical ability and suitablity to it. United & Arsenal do, Latics quite clearly don’t
As a result we have square pegs in round holes all over the pitch. To have blindly persisted in the formation when it is blindingly obvious it isn’t suitable to those players currently at the club is a sign of Martinez’s managerial naivety

              Wrong , wrong , wrong !!!

How can you say the current players can’t play this system when , if we’d taken our chances on Saturday we’d have blown Everton out of the water.

Out of interest just who are the square pegs. And if you say Zog being on the right , I’m logging off !!!!

I’ll tell you why I say our current players can’t play this system shall I??? Take a look at the league table. We currently sit 2 points above relegation for starters
Not to mention the fact that the performances this season where “the system” has been totally dismantled have far outweighed the ones where it has looked effective
Not to mention that we have conceded more goals so far in just over half a season than we did in the whole of last season
using Saturday’s game as an example, if my auntie had b0ll0x she’d be my uncle. Everton had more shots on & off target than latics did so if they’d taken all their chances they’d have blown Latics out of the water

As for square pegs – well you’ve stated one yourself ;) . Rodallega aint a winger – nor is he a lone “target man”, Paul Scharner is not a midfielder in the memory of man no matter what he tells everybody. we’ve had right footed players on the left & vice versa.
I believe there’s also some debate as to whether jason Scotland is in the right profession never mind the right position!!

The reason we are currently 2 points above the relegation spots is not down to the system that we play.

It’s because our strikers haven’t been taking their chances but mainly because we haven’t had the killer instinct to finish teams off. Off the top of my head , Everton away should’ve got a point , City should’ve won , Fulham should’ve won , Birmingham shouldn’t have lost , Stoke should’ve won , Everton on Saturday should’ve won.

You mention the goals conceded. With Caldwell in, Titus hopefully getting back to his best and Boyce staying at full back we are already looking better. Defending from corners is obviously a problem so maybe uncle Dave can take a training session and sort it. ;)

Finally on your square pegs. I’m glad we agree on something , that Hugo isn’t a lone target man or indeed a left winger. But he isn’t playing left wing. He’s not hugging the line trying to get to the bye-line and crossing. He’s coming in constantly supporting and linking with the lone striker, which is presumably what you would want if we went to 4-4-2.

Anyway you have actually mentioned left footers playing on the right so I’m logging off and going banging my head against the wall.

I’m sorry but the system Bobby is deploying has got everything to do with it. Take a look at our goals conceded figures. Latics have conceded 47 goals. That has absolutely nothing to do with our forwards not putting enough of their chances away
The system is why we lost 9-1 at Spurs, why we got mullered home & away by United, why Portsmouth scored 21% of their season’s goals to date tally in one game against us. I’ve said in other posts on other threads that there have been brief glimpses that it can work but they have been far outshone by the times when the whole system we play looks terrible & devoid of any direction or impetus
I’d dispute some of the games you say we should have won too – with City at home Bobby had the chance to go for the kill when they went down to 10 men but persisted with 4-5-1 & the game fizzled out. Everton away we were f00kin awful & deserved nowt. Brum we lost coz we crumbled when we conceded a goal as we have done regularly this season, Everton on Saturday our keeper was the busier, against Stoke we were awful in the 2nd half & a draw was a fair result

If you are referring to brain cells then I plead guilty as charged.

I am sorry if I have offended the sensibilities of your good-self and Philip, please let me explain:

Wigan Athletic is my club and I have learned over the years that supporters from other clubs will make ill-informed and malicious attacks upon it. I find most of them quite amusing as they are generally born out of a sense of jealousy that “little Wigan” is up there amongst the “big boys” where they feel they belong.

What does make me rather annoyed though is “the enemy within” who claim to be supporters of our club but don’t appear to do anything but make pathetic jibes and criticise it. The pathetic display by Fil (to call him by his proper name) at the Everton match really sums you lot up. He stood up with outstretched arms and turning to everyone within earshot said “I rest my case” when Jason Scotland missed a chance. He was revelling in the fact that Jason Scotland had missed just so that he would be proved right and could persist in his pathetic serial rants. If he thought he looked big and clever then he should think again because everyone, apart from his disciples, thought he looked a right pratt.

When Jason Scotland missed, I was nearly as disappointed as he himself was. I was disappointed for him, for Dave Whelan, Roberto Martinez, and for all our supporters. Jason Scotland, just like Emile Heskey and numerous others before him, has divided opinion amongst supporters and everyone is entitled to their view but Jason Scotland is part of my club and I will defend my club to the hilt. I shouldn’t have to defend it against its own so-called supporters.

PS As previously stated, things went downhill on Saturday when Jason Scotland was substituted.

PPS Have you any Newcastle blood in your veins?

you see i do not remember my brother shouting and with his arms out stretched as you say. i also do not remember anyone shouting at him to sit down. when you think a player is through on goal it is a reaction to stand up. i also am starting to think your that old bloke who sits in front of me. if you have a problem then say it to are faces and not by hiding behind a keyboard.

Stop digging a hole for yourself !!

If you are challenging me to a duel on the bridge then I reserve the right to choose weapons and nominate my second:

For weapons, I choose dummies which are to be spat out from ten paces.

My second will be Dave who I think has experienced meeting adversaries on the bridge.

You really are pathetic aren’t you?

PS To save the poor old chap who sits in front of you any more hassle than he already has – it is not me !
