I SINCERELY hope the club proves you wrong (not being funny there) because I think that would be the absolute death of this club and I doubt I’d be alone in wanting a refund. I’m keen on seeing young players come through, but not by being shoved into the mire like that.
There is a big difference between buying a car & supporting a football team & everyone knows that. If we all asked for refunds everytime the club sells a player, wigan athletic FC would have ceased to exist a long time ago.
Im with vat on this one. Stop moaning. Stop whinging & support your club.[/quote]
You do know that you quoted Vat here don’t you! So you would want your money back?
30 August 2017 at 4:02 am #161617Not included in squad at Blackpool with no weekend game to help his match fitness .Does this all add up to bye bye come Thursday ?….
30 August 2017 at 10:54 am #161618It better not because two matches running with two different sides there was one major thing missing and this was a natural goal scorer like Will.
We have got shut of four strikers and borrowed one from Newcastle and signed Hunt for some obscure reason. Surely not even Latics could be so crazy to let Will go.30 August 2017 at 12:12 pm #161620Not included in squad at Blackpool with no weekend game to help his match fitness .Does this all add up to bye bye come Thursday ?….It could add up to that Will like the rest who wasn’t in the squad is key to Cookies plans and was not risked in a game the club are prioritizing the least.
30 August 2017 at 1:23 pm #161624Not included in squad at Blackpool with no weekend game to help his match fitness .Does this all add up to bye bye come Thursday ?….I notice Powell wasn’t in last night’s squad, so he must be off.
Oh – and Dan Burn; he wasn’t there either.
And Sam Morsy. And Gavin Massey. etc etc etc.It may have been more a sign if he WAS in the squad.
And Paul Cook didn’t seem to be there either. What do you read into that?
I read that it was considered a reserve game for youngsters and fringe players to get some game time in a competition we have to enter.

Powell Burn Morsey and Massey all played Saturday and all put a shift in, Grigg played for 20 minutes. Now based on players who don’t feature in League fixtures and one’s as high profile as Grigg would normally take part in Cup games just to keep their fitness levels on par with others.
Latics took a precautionary measure in the off chance someone comes back in for him. Looking at Griggs body language and the couple of chances he missed in his 20 minute show it suggest to me he want’s out and I don’t blame him.
If we get around the million plus mark then this means we will have banked around 2.5 million and spent jack sh*t on replacements and that’s not including any cash if Power goes . It wouldn’t shock me in the least if a there’s a last minute approach for either Burn or Jacobs (in his last year) or worse, Powell.
I’m beginning to think Division 1 is our new level and can see us ping ponging between div 1 and the Championship. The Neymar transfer has taken player prices through the roof, not just for us but for every club similar to us and with the likes of Wolves spending for fun and the Prem clubs taking the drop money I cannot how us or similar clubs can ever do as we have done in the past and compete in the Championship.I keep saying this, if DW have of spent some of the dosh on an top Academy we could be cherry picking right now. bar central London you couldn’t be in a better catchment area for young talented players when released with 4 of the top 8 Prem clubs within pishin distance. Hindsight is a wonderful but in the case of an Academy and Wigan it was an necessity.

Latics would still be feeding off the scraps/rejects from the likes of United, City, Liverpool & Everton.
Academies aren’t the be all & end all of producing good young players which is the reason why many clubs below the top flight have scrapped them coz they cost a lot of money without producing any better results than the traditional youth set ups.
At the time of being in the top flight, Latics had a set budget & to have had an Academy would have cost millions in set up costs & an additional £2mill a season to run. It would also have taken years for results to start to come through. The club could have spent that money but it would have meant spending less on players ready to jump straight into the first team squad which may have meant that our stay in the top flight would not have lasted as long as the 8 seasons that it did. So instead the club made the decision to spend the money on the here & now in order to try & keep us in the top flight & hopefully eventually to be able to set up an Academy.
I can completely understand why they went down the route that they did30 August 2017 at 5:53 pm #161630There was a lad in a Charlton tracksuit on the train today whistling Freed from Desire so looks like he deffo off.
31 August 2017 at 3:11 pm #161650IMO, the reason grigg hasn’t featured mainly yet is;
a) he is still not properly match fit due to the injury picked up last season.
b) toney has been doing well so far to keep him out of the team.
c) whwn grigg is fit, i assume cook will rotate the 2 of them to keep them both fresh.

Jason KoumasIs it just me that can’t make head or tail out of this? It doesn’t seem to make much sense.

To be fair Griff, I reckon we should be at least Championship level as we have spent a third of our football league history in the top 2 tiers, 13 seasons out of the last 15!

And therefore two-thirds out of the top 2 tiers.
