Well are we happy with the signings on deadline day and the players shipped out to make way?
We certainly haven’t strengthened the squad, looks like Caldwells strength in depth policy goes out of the window, i must say im happy to an extent with two of the signings but to shift Colclough and Morsy out Caldwell has defo dropped a bollock!
Fuck the EFL
1 September 2016 at 2:47 am #150374We’ll we have two right backs and two left backs. An extra striker but we have the job of building up team spirit and momentum. The squad is now a mixture of established and untried. Would have been much happier in keeping Morsy Colclough McCann Pearce and playing them alongside a few new faces over the last seven weeks or so and keeping up the momentum and team spirit that was there at the end of last season. If we had struggled and these players had not made the grade then we could have shipped them out and brought a few cast offs and loaners to replace them in January. It just seems that the way we have done things will have totally changed the atmosphere in the dressing room and could be quite disruptive. I haven’t got a clue if we will be any stronger at all so I am not over happy with what as occurred since last season ended. Change for changes sake and momentum stopped.

1 September 2016 at 12:34 pm #150383So so but after QPR I would revert back to playing Power and Perkins in the MIDDLE neither left side or right side in the bloody middle and build around them.
1 September 2016 at 12:37 pm #150384Just had a quick browse on one or two other Latics sites, some of the numpties comments are unbelievable!
Quite happy with the ins and outs the past couple of days, top half finish, one mon actually said “we needed a clear out and we needed new faces” At least reading some of that bullshit seems to have cheered me up after yesterdays debacle.

Jeez I wouldn’t call it a debacle, just a few reservations. Le Fondre has hardly played in 2 seasons so clearly here to warm the bench instead of another main attack option. As last season a lot of players needing time to knit and in this division its gonna be a lot harder to keep in the mix until they do. Glad we have a break to be honest to give the new lads a little time at Euxton with the squad.

1 September 2016 at 1:14 pm #150387To be fair we were in this situation last season with a completely brand new team. This season seems no different. This season is about consolidation in this league. If we finish one place above the relegation places, i for one will be content, then we can build for the future. The trouble with some fans on here is they want a quickfix return to the premier league.
Sorry guys, but it wont happen this season.

Hang on a mo Runcorn didnt we have the same like like posts this time last year, regarding consolidation and building for the future?
Why do we go through the same process over and over again, other clubs our size manage to consolidate others don’t i would put us in the “others dont” category at the minute!

Yes indeed we did. We brought in a load of new players who needed time to gel & get to know one another. However, the difference this season is we are in a much harder & tougher league & that is why consolidation will be fine for me personally. As fans we all have different expectations of what we want from our club. There are those who are realistic. Those who are optimistic & those who are negative.
Last season we exceeded expectation IMO & where some were prepared to accept & expect another season in league 1, we end up going on a tremendous run that did not just end up with promotion, but going up as champions.
Realistically, consolidation is the aim this season. GC has “turfed out” those he thinks are not suitable for this level & brought in those he thinks are. Lets see where we are by the end of october, maybe november when the team/players have hopefully started to gel & we might have an indication for our league position come may.
