Quote..”They try to play the ball about but if you want to do that, you can’t do it as a point of principal, at the expense of results, which is waht they are doing, giving away possession and goals by trying to play football with players who aren’t good enough.”
The other good point made is the one about getting a good defensive base first. As was said there is no comparing Huth and Shawcross to Caldwell and Alcaraz. Problem is we’ve gone for the likes of Huth in the past and either they won’t come or we can’t afford the fee and/or their wages.
No doubt the comment about Martinez being overrated drew you in?
To be fair, there are some pretty decent comments on there, and a number of them are complimentary.
All good work was undone with the final comment however:
‘Post a link on their message board… all three of their fans might respond.’
Edit: I haven’t seen anyone saying Wigan are a laughing stock – a comment which is posted on this forum regularly.
You really are turning into a grade A ‘cock’ standish – what’s changed with you? you was always one of the more intelligent voices of reason on here.
I posted it because it has every range of views from fans outside the club that are fiercely expressed on here by the opposing factions on this board, I had in fact missed the Martinez comment, but if it is this one :-
“Because they don’t have huge resources and Martinez is a vastly overrated manager.”
I think it more or less sums us up, apart from the comment that filmoss picked up on, that one says more about wigan athletic than any poster, light or dark side, has said on here for the last 3 years.

And there’s the rub. We can’t even attract Robert Huth. Speaks volumes[/quote]
Huth is a proper stopper and is the model of what we need, perhaps the £5 million that stoke paid for him would have been out of our reach, but the £1 million that stoke paid for shawcross wouldn’t have been, whatever your view of martinez is everybody must see that setting a defence up is his weakest attribute.
I thought you looked alright for the last 30 mins last night. played some good football and created a few good chances.
Alright you could argue we took our foot of the gas, game won and all that but maybe if Martinez takes the chains off and lets you play with a bit less fear you can still survive?

I assume the manager at the time a big strong defender who won titles with United and having good links with Sir Alex would have bought Shawcross for the said 1 million
The very fact that some of our “fans” have felt the need to trawl through other teams message boards to look for more negatives about Bobby and our club just takes the biscuit.
Just because LMB is too embarrassed to pen his own relegation song this year, he has resorted to letting one of our bitterest rival clubs do it for him.
Then he tries to convince us that he was looking at it from a balanced view.
Just ask yourself LMB if every post on that thread and not just 50% of them, had said something positive about Bobby would you have wet your pants and posted the link?

Spectacularly missing the point again. Whether we believe Huth and Shawcross to be good, bad or indifferent players, the fact is that Wigan Athletic struggle to attract that calibre of player.
For the record, I think they would both be good additions to our team.
