      Another armchair fan.

Yep. Some folk believe only a select few off here have any right to go to the games. Personally, i would welcome anyone going to swell the numbers to be honest. Someone once said the worst kind of football fan is the football snob, the type of fan who believes he is the biggest fan and only he has the right to go to games, or talk about the club. Still, ill go whn im back. My 15 odd quid might go some way to helping the club, as would a few others, who by inference on here are not fit to pay to watch the team.

Or have the club started vetting people who are allowed to go along to watch now by means of cockney latic? Is there a form we fill in?

Sorry if it seems like I’m butting in or anything, but this is a public forum and I couldn’t help overhearing something I feel strongly against when it’s written in front of me.

For a kick off, I am of the belief that no fan has the right to tell another they should attend matches, like you’ve inferred there.

Being a fan doesn’t mean you have to turn up to every game, nor does it mean they have to be able to name every player that’s played for the club. You merely have to show their support for the club in whichever means necessary.

I’d like to think that as intelligent human beings (well, the few of us on here ;) ) our weekends should be dictated by what we want to do, and not by a fixture list.

Just because a fan is an ‘armchair fan’ it doesn’t make their opinion on anything regarding the club and less than any other fan.

For example, even though Mighty_Aff didn’t attend the game, he did see it on tele so therefore he saw the exact same same Griff/Jayt?Arky saw live at the DW. He can have his say as much as he pleases and his opinion is worth just as much as a ‘non armchair fan’.

No fan’s opinion is worth more than another’s in my view.

          Rant over.

As a side note, I rate Distin (not Distan) quite highly actually and I think him and Jagielka are solid as a pair.

Duke – Mighty would have had to have been pretty drunk to see the exact same game that I saw yesterday ;)

The question for me is what is our striker doing in our area? He should be up the field, out of harm’s way, dragging a couple of their players with him.

We consistently defend far too deep, and packing the area means the ball ricochetes around dangerously.

 Were you saying that when Heskey was defending balls vs Sheffield Utd?

Probably not but that’s a futile argument. Rodallega has form for using his hands in the air, look at the last few weeks with his stupid attempts at winning the ball in the air only to handle it. He’s next to useless in the air and has absolutely no place in our box defending. If we can’t expect 9 other outfield players to do their job then that’s a coaching/individual player issue.

Stab yourself in one eye and watch the game through your one remaining eye, and you’re getting close Duke.

I disagree,if youre saying that a supporter who doesnt attend a game is equal to one who does, then maybe we should all stay at home & watch home games in the pub,let the team play behind closed doors & let’s see where that gets us.

Fans who pay through the turnstile are the lifeblood of the club, might not be as much the case for WAFC at the minute & being bailed out by massive Sky & TV cheques but that just pays the players wages. If we drop out of this league, that ratio will change considerably. Its not coincidence that the clubs who are usually at the top of the leagues, winning trophies etc are the ones from big cities who get the biggest crowds

Support is about turning up to games & physically showing your face & your support. How does this club you support even know youre supporting them if youre not at the game or watching it on the internet.

Im not having a dig at mighty_aff as clearly he’s halfway across the world & we all occasionally have work & social events we cant get out of but if youre suggesting it doesnt make a difference whether people turn up or not for one of our most crucial games of the season then thats very naive in my opinion

You raise good points yet the teams at the top have the most fans because they are at the top. Not vice versa.

Also, I have more respect for fans that are willing to give up their free time/money to help/support their club. Yet is their opinion more of less valid than another fan’s? Not for me.

Just because a fan doesn’t make every game doesn’t make them any less of a fan in my opinion.

                      #64611

I’m going to jump into this debate about whether attending games makes you kore of a fan or not.

In that respect I’m with Scholes. Showing you’re support and turning up makes you a better fan.

However, it doesn’t give you any more or less intelligence. It doesn’t give you any greater football knowledge, or tactical insight. So, in that respect, I’m with Duke.

Nowt quite like sitting on the fence is there?

                      #64614

Not traditionally Duke. Large cities, or towns and cities in remote areas with little competition, have a bigger catchment, and therefore have always attracted larger crowds.

Places like London, Manchester, Liverpool, Birmingham, Newcastle, Leeds, Sheffield, Nottingham etc are always going to attract bigger crowds than the likes of Wigan, Burnley, and Blackburn.

The top team now attract masses of fans from outside their catchment areas due to success, but football was a regional thing until (probably) football being shown on TV.
