The clamour for Martinez’ services seems to be gathering pace.

Cause for reflection for a moment (Bobby) :

    (1) We went into ‘this season with our strongest squad’ (Martinez)
    (2) 15 HOME games in we had only beaten QPR at home – disgraceful.
    (3) 8 defeats on the bounce (Messers Morgan /Wolves and Fernandez /QPR would have taken the matter in their own hands (Whelan did not))
    (4) When all else had failed and we appeared dead and buried, one last throw of the dice (formation change from turgid 4-5-1 to 3-4-3)
    (5) The last 2-3 months have arguably shown Wigan Athletic in a light never seen before

Arguably, the cause for reciprocation of loyalty is now greater than ever. Come on Bob, push Whelan to deliver close season on improving quality of playing squad, go deliver next season and take us to a top 10 (next level) to really put yourself in the shop window. Let us prove that this was not a 3 month one-off wonder. 3 successive games won AND counting (into next season …).

Real success next season would also make us more marketable to a greater number of candidates (if we are seen to show genuine ambition).

First of all we never played a 4-5-1 it was a 4-3-3 which is blatently obvious to everyone with a set of eyeballs apart from you and Tyldsley…

Switching to a back 3 was not simply a throw of the dice but an obvious work in progress credit where credit is due ey…

“Arguably, the cause for reciprocation of loyalty is now greater than ever.”

Arguably indeed considering he left a team that was drawing applause across two nations to join a team close to his heart that were in absolute free fall after a second attempt at a sobatage mission by ye olde bent nose.

Arguably, the cause for reciprocation of loyalty is now greater than ever in that Martinez has put us in the strongest position we have been on and off the pitch in the history of club and should give him our best wishes should he wish to move on and better his career.

Roberto Martinez owes Wigan Athletic nothing.

4-3-3 my *rse (e.g. deployment of D Jones on LHS)

Work in progress…2.5 years ??? The back three to a man have all been at the club for a wee while, have they not ?

How long has it taken Rodgers, Swansea, to get his philosophy across, outplaying the likes of City, Arsenal etc. along the way ? Minimal spend since promotion.

Credit on account of Latics recent form is given (see point 5)

League position, points tally under Bruce prior to departure (11th, 45 pts.) Absolute free-fall ??? Poor end to season, yes. So Cattermole and Bramble went (Sunderland) and ??

The reason why we’re now in a much strong position off the field than in recent years(financially) is very much down to D Whelan; conversion of £40M debt to share capital. Take a look at our not so noisy neighbours, Wanderers, £110M in DEBT and consigned to the Championship. Now that’s you may call ABSOLUTE FREE FALL !!

 Fook me with a point like that who I am to disagree…. what the hell Jones playing on the left side has to do with a combination of three forwards is beyond me but alas I shall humour your championship manager tactical knowledge.

4 defenders — > Figs Alcaraz Caldwell Boyce
    3 Midfielders — > Jones Mccarthy Diame
3 Forwards — > Gomez Di santo Moses

    turning into:

3 Defenders —> Figs Alcaraz Cladwell
    2 wingbacks —> Jean Boycie
    2 Midfielders —> Mac n Mac
3 Forwards —> Maloney Di Santo and Moses

There it is…. if you want to further argue the case you can go speak to Roberto who says its 3 forwards and is in a good position to do so as they are his tactics.

“How long has it taken Rodgers, Swansea, to get his philosophy across, outplaying the likes of City, Arsenal etc. along the way ? Minimal spend since promotion”

Took him no time at all because its not his philosophy they pretty much play the same system as when Martinez was in charge.

“League position, points tally under Bruce prior to departure (11th, 45 pts.) Absolute free-fall ??? Poor end to season, yes. So Cattermole and Bramble went (Sunderland) and ?? ”

If you think we would have had a good season under Bruce the next time round you are a deluded fool. Dont get me started on how much the ugly git spent in his time here that has already been covered previously in much detail.

Nice try at pretending you know what you are talking about but the £40M debt to Whelan was never being repaid so had nil effect on our finances apart from it looking alot better on the balance sheet e.g. more viable investment to potential buyers unlike Roberto’s reduction of wage bill which has had a massive impact while also creating a v.strong squad capable of competing in the premier league.

Gomez, A forward ?? Quality! Heaven help us all…..

‘In some sports, an attacker is a specific type of player, usually one whose role involves aggressive play. Heavy attackers are usually placed up front so they can score some points for the team’.

I bow to your superior knowledge on Swansea as someone who’s kept a close eye on their progress.

Think you’ll find however that Rodgers has developed the team (football philosophy continued), particularly their front line of Sinclair, Dyer and Graham (all…F-O-R-W-A-R-D-S), equally, their mid-field with Gomez and Gower no longer part of ….

Made no comment on whether or not Bruce would have had a successful next season. All that you and I can agree on is what he did deliver

ie. 11th / 45 points (not a lover of Steve Bruce, before you start..)

Look up One Moorgate Place, London, bud’ and you’ll find that I do have an idea what I’m talking about, football-finance-wise.

Of course, most loans nowadays are interest-free, are they not ??? Just ask Man Utd

    ;)

V strong squad – yeah, right. Thankfully, in recent weeks the core has remained pretty much available throughout, we haven’t needed to call on reinforcements (Gohouri (Back 3), Sammon (Di Santo), Gomez (Maloney) ..)

Greater strength in depth and contribution of all a MUST for next season (note payroll beneficiaries Rodallega and Bosselli)

Well, Martinez considers Gomez to be a forward and I would rather listen to him than you, to be fair.

The rest of your post was just noise. One Moorgate Place? Who you expecting that to impress?

I could of sworn Gomez stood in for Maloney at the Emirates and also chipped in with a goal whilst Maloney was injured JPC01 could do with having a pint with Griff it’s done wonders for Bickymon

Mick McCarthy is the anti-Martinez. He’s a budget Bruce. Decent manager, but is all for the first team and would undo anything done outside the parameters of the first team squad.

Cubishley’s turned down every job he’s been linked with – so I doubt if he’d even consider it.

I honestly cannot think of a manager I’d like in as a replacement. Someone from a smaller club north of the border maybe.

          Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

gamble but i he is an intellegent man and i don’t see anyone else around that will continue to develop what Bobby has started to build.

he undoubtedly wants to get back in to the Manure set up as he progresses so what better place than a local club.

          #87360

He did, was there to witness it. Admittedly, good contribution in first 15m (best yet in Latics shirt?). Was taken off in 2H
          (increasingly pedestrian role).

Lasted at Fulham the following Saturday for 45 mins. before Maritnez replaced him with Maloney (back from injury).

His impact since..?? (‘One swallow’ ….)

One swallow, five goals? Not bad for a no-mark, non-forward, is it?

From open play ????? (3, excl. pens. ?)

Gary Caldwell, Emerson Boyce, …. ???

dalgliesh has been sacked. maybe its not such a hypothetical question now. he may have been a boyhood liverpool fan like everyone else who signs for them

            #87385

            What about Brendan Rodgers?

Plays the same style, and it would really p-off the Swans that we pinched two managers from them

Personally – I don’t think Liverpool will go for Martinez (not enough experience) and I think (hope) he’ll be here in August.
