If the dreaded day came when he left i think someone like Mick McCarthy or Alan Curbishly would do a good job
Mick McCarthy is the anti-Martinez. He’s a budget Bruce. Decent manager, but is all for the first team and would undo anything done outside the parameters of the first team squad.
Cubishley’s turned down every job he’s been linked with – so I doubt if he’d even consider it.
I honestly cannot think of a manager I’d like in as a replacement. Someone from a smaller club north of the border maybe.
Nigel Adkins is worth a shout.
would have been a good choice if southampton had stayed in the championship but he will want to see that job through.
16 May 2012 at 10:45 pm #87391I dont think Robbie will go anywhere, the man has intelligence and knows he will not get the time to fashion another club into his favoured style of playing.Imagine how high his stock will rise if we have a good season and he knows he will never get the backing afforded to him by Mr Whelan. He is still very very young and has a long career ahead of him and im pretty certain he will take the job that is right for him when the time is also right for him.Mr Whelan on talkshoite this morning seemed very sure that his man will be still be here for a while yet and thats good enough for me.
16 May 2012 at 11:18 pm #87397Well Whelan when interviewed by Talk Sport this morning more or less said Liverpool would be an ideal job for him but Kenny Dalgleish was going no where ! Several hours later KD had gone and the bookies installed RM as fav to take over ! I personally think it is too soon for RM to move to a big club but I really do think he will be tempted and this question could become a real question !!
These odds seem to reflect some sort of inside knowledge regarding 2 managers !!
16 May 2012 at 11:24 pm #8739913-8 now from an earlier 5-2 !!
16 May 2012 at 11:49 pm #87401What about Brendan Rodgers?Plays the same style, and it would really p-off the Swans that we pinched two managers from them
Personally – I don’t think Liverpool will go for Martinez (not enough experience) and I think (hope) he’ll be here in August.
I agree garswood, Liverpool will want to be pushing the top 4 clubs streight away and it will take time for bobby to install what he wants, cant see them waiting for bobby to build

He did, was there to witness it. Admittedly, good contribution in first 15m (best yet in Latics shirt?). Was taken off in 2H
(increasingly pedestrian role).Lasted at Fulham the following Saturday for 45 mins. before Maritnez replaced him with Maloney (back from injury).
His impact since..?? (‘One swallow’ ….)
And if he hadn’t scored those three pens and two other goals our points tally would be a few points lower
17 May 2012 at 2:08 am #87404Steve Bruce with Eric Black as his assistant would be my choice if Martinez is stupid enough to take a job like Liverpool or Villa where he will get no time to turn things round.
I think he will stay though and see what this new team that he just fathomed how work will shape up in the new season.17 May 2012 at 3:07 am #87410Anonymous
Looks like it is AVB after according to reports paddypower have suspended bets on him

And if he does go to who-ever there’s no doubt he’ll be back to rape the club of a few players which will leave us up diao-river without a paddle.
17 May 2012 at 12:36 pm #87418Steve Bruce with Eric Black as his assistant would be my choiceThank Christ you’re not involved in the decision-making process then.
17 May 2012 at 1:01 pm #87421Steve Bruce with Eric Black as his assistant would be my choiceThere’s about as much chance of that happening as I have of going to the moon a week next Tuesday.
Let’s keep it realistic, eh.17 May 2012 at 1:31 pm #87423Anonymous
I’ll throw 1 name in the hat ;-
Frank de Boer:pinch:
17 May 2012 at 6:50 pm #87440I agree with Garswood- Not experienced enough to be Liverpool boss. I guess the same would apply to AVB. Trying not to contemplate life without him at Wigan as I really think after 2 and a half seasons of trying to get it right he finally achieved it in those magical last 10 games. Really looking forward to further progression next season.
As for the formation I’m pretty sure that the games against West Brom, Sunderland, Liverpool, Chelsea, around xmas time were the start of the wing backs as Stam and Jones were playing in those positions. The problem was that the 2 most important players in that formation did not have the level of fitness to get up and down the field. The January signing of Beausejour and return of Boyce gave us the personel to be effective. Add Maloney into the mix and the picture was complete. I think it is of paramont importance that we have cover in those wing back positions, Stam at a push could do a job but not much on the left if Beausejour is out for a significant period of time.
