What are the actual ‘Ins’ and ‘Outs’ so far regarding our squad?
9 June 2015 at 5:06 pm #142754What are the actual ‘Ins’ and ‘Outs’ so far regarding our squad? From what I have heard so far it’s-
IN
Perkins
O’Donnell
ChowOUT
Kim
Kvist
Fortune
Al Habsi
Bong
All the loan players and some Dev squad youngstersPretty quiet at this time of year as to be expected, but it should hot up a bit as we near the end of June when contracts are up etc etc.
10 June 2015 at 12:54 am #142758I wouldn’t think the potential strike partnership of Riera and Delort will be staying. I cant see us wanting to pay their Championship wages. What we havnt seen we wont miss and we havnt seen enough of these two and even less as a partnership to cast any judgement so goodbye and good luck lads but let us just hope we can get a couple of bob back for these two and replace them with cheaper options in the calibre of Roberts and Ellington.
What is happening with Pennant? anyone know? not that he is good enough but just wondering if he still going to be with us or in the Afghan League or wherever else a mercenary can sell his wares.
McClean is another. This mon as far as I know it is one of our players. Is he still one of ours or selling himself around a cushy number in the U.S. Not that I am that arsed as he isn’t that good either and if someone daft enough comes in with the money snatch their hands off Sharpey. I can see him going down well shaking his tin raising funds dressed in his lepricorn suit around Boston or New York for the poor oppressed republicans on St Paddys night.
Gone quiet with Max Power. Who next Max Headroom?10 June 2015 at 1:08 am #142759What’s the point of signing anyone if you are going to say they aren’t good enough? Can you define what good enough is in terms of league one.
From Matlock to ManU
What a journey!10 June 2015 at 1:38 am #142760Its just that McClean and Pennant were not that special last season ad we were relegated. To get promoted they would have to be better that’s all. We have seen before what is required to gain promotion from league one and neither of those two and probably none of last seasons side would have got near the starting eleven of our league one promotion winning side.
10 June 2015 at 1:51 am #142761After all James Tavernier walked into Bristol City’s championship winning side!

The game has changed and Ellington and Roberts would probably not get in the same side nowadays. If only we could return to that amazing season.
10 June 2015 at 3:13 am #142763The fact that we were bereft of 2 or 3 decent strikers is the reason why we went down, it really is that simple! To play with no strikers in some of the games was baffling for sure! Look at the teams who went up. Bournemouth had 4 strikers who weighed in with 60 goals between them. Watford had 3 who netted 57 between them and Norwich had 3 who scored 44 !
I know it’s early days but I would like to see at least 2 half decent strikers added to the squad!10 June 2015 at 10:28 am #142764Don’t think the game has changed that much Nuneaton. Bournmouth Watford and Norwich managed promotion playing the style and way we did in the times of Roberts and Ellington as did Burnley and Leicester the previous season. look at the previous season Ings and Vokes plucked from nowhere and could not be classed as any better than our Nathan and Jason.
Tavernier as been mentioned too and we saw so little of Tavernier it is hard to comment just like Riera and Delort. He could possibly be another to go due to Championship wages.10 June 2015 at 1:15 pm #142765Ins:
Some 34 year old who played for Blackpool last season.
A goalkeeper who has been on loan to about 10 clubs, and has never played higher than 3rd division.
Possibly a bloke who got relegated out of the football league with Tranmere.Outs:
The last of the class of 2013 and all the loanees.
All the others have made noises but don’t have the balls to submit a transfer request because they’d have to forgo a pay-off.
10 June 2015 at 7:30 pm #142766Well that is hard to argue against Mutty but who knows what will happen in the crazy world of Latics in the next few weeks.

Don’t get me wrong Donny I want to see us go with 2 up and play like we did in Jewells purple patch but the management and coaching staff see the game differently these days and we have to knuckle down and get on with it. Lets see how Watford and Bournemouth do next season and how many goals the forwards get as Burnley and Ings found to their cost this.
11 June 2015 at 2:12 am #142768Fingers crossed the quality will be arriving soon.
11 June 2015 at 2:21 am #142769They won’t see the game differently in League One I can assure you! Forget the Prem, forget the Championship, it’s a whole different ballgame now for Wigan Athletic! Back to basics if we are to get promotion, no pissing around with squad rotation and continental formations, just all out direct football with plenty of nitty gritty and ‘In your face’ football! If Caldwell goes back to the Martinez way with the standard of players that we are likely to have then we are in for a shock!
11 June 2015 at 10:34 am #142770That squad rotation in the last few seasons has cost us dearly.
4-4-2 3-5-2 5-3-2 or 4-3-3 so long as the two of the three are out and out strikers. Please no 3-5-1 or 5-3-1, although six years of this has cured my insomnia.
Surely we wont be going out to bore the league to sleep. -
