Sorry about that Egg. The memories of those amazing days all blend in. Let us pray Gary returns to the type of football we played throughout the Migjty Jewelers era.
7 July 2015 at 9:35 pm #143113To be fair, when we signed the players you mentioned only Ellington came with a track record.
We had not really heard that much about DeZeuw, Liddle, Bullard and McCulloch.
John Filan had played at a much higher level, but the new keeper we have signed comes with glowing praise from the Walsall fans.
Lets give Gary and his signings the benefit of the doubt at least untill after the first match before we write them off, you just never know.7 July 2015 at 10:00 pm #143114I thoroughly agree because at the end of the day he has a limit of what he can pay and also pay out in wages. Would be a bit more of a level playing field if all clubs had to operate under the same financial constraints as our club.

Would be a bit more of a level playing field if all clubs had to operate under the same financial constraints as our club. And if 15 or so years ago we had had to operate under the same constraints as some clubs, we probably wouldn’t have got out of League One.
8 July 2015 at 1:21 am #143117That is true Egg but I am meaning not going into a massive amount of debt without doing anything about it and this helping your cause for promotion or to avoid relegation. Hats off to Burnley, although relegated they stayed away from amassing huge amounts of debt. Not like QPR who despite continually disregard for any financial rules continue to be allowed to get up to their dodgy dealings but with some justice .. the relegation they deserved. Blackburn and Noblot would probably be in our position if their spending was curtailed.
8 July 2015 at 3:23 am #143121Like the other Bolton player we have just signed Davies seems to be injury prone, especially his hamstring! Not sure why they have both been given 3yr and 2yr contracts respectively when they are both injury prone?
8 July 2015 at 12:06 pm #143122Then there’s Rotherham asking a million pound for Matt Derbyshire, a player they signed on a free 12 month back.
And for me Davies is a poor poor signing, he suffers from persistent hamstring injuries which has blighted his career and wherever he goes he has always been thrown out on loan , ask yourself why.
8 July 2015 at 1:46 pm #143123He’s nigh on 350 first team games under his belt so his injury record can’t be that bad. And he’s had 1 spell on loan in the last 5 years. Almost all his loan spells were years ago. That could suggest he’s matured and turned into proper player.
8 July 2015 at 2:12 pm #143124Last time Davies played a full season in League One, he scored 23 goals.
If he can keep fit, I think he’ll be a decent signing.
8 July 2015 at 5:06 pm #143126My Nob End mates have been taking the piss saying that apart from a hat trick he scored in a 6-1 drubbing of Carlisle he only netted 2 other times in 15 outings! Four different fans ( They don’t know each other ) have told me he was utter shite!
8 July 2015 at 7:36 pm #143127In an effort to offer some balance and despite my mis-givings a Bolton lad at work is sorry to see him go. Would have liked to have kept him.
He just reminds me of Leon Clarke, that many clubs, loans etc doesn’t inspire me.
On another note we’ve put a decent bid in for Will Grigg at Brentford and he could end up being our million pound/20+ goals a season man and is a proper goalscorer at this level.

Sounds like League One could be his level, which some fans need to realise is where we’ll ply our trade next year.
8 July 2015 at 8:06 pm #143134I think the ‘last time he played a full season’ is the most important bit
8 July 2015 at 8:46 pm #143135I think the ‘last time he played a full season’ is the most important bitAh yes, but was he out injured, loaned to a league two side or did his loan with the league one side end?
He could have been on a 6 month loan and scored say 10 goals.
8 July 2015 at 10:16 pm #143137And for me Davies is a poor poor signing, he suffers from persistent hamstring injuries which has blighted his career and wherever he goes he has always been thrown out on loan , ask yourself why.Ben Watson was injured a lot and went out on loan on numerous occasions but it didn’t stop him knucking down at Wigan when the opportunity arose and he went on to score the most important goal in our History.
FFS lets stop writing players off before we have even seen them play.
