As much as I am thankful to D.W for what he had done for Wigan Athletic. As a member of Joe Public looking from the outside. He ruined Orrell R.U. and now he has closed down another sporting club, after giving assurances he wouldn’t.

If he bought it he can do what he want with it

If the golf club was not profitable the members could have put a consortium together to outbid DW.

Anyway – non football posts are not allowed on this forum page; as I found out earlier.

DW; a man of his word, so he purchased a potential new training facility for RM.

It has been proven beyond all doubt that one’s popularity is inversely proportional to one’s achievements in life, so the answer to your original question is probably yes.

Revered by all the “reality TV brigade”. Perhaps Dave should audition for Big Brother to gain the respect of the Darkside.

Correct and, invariably, it is all about jealousy

Couldnt care less about Orrell RU like most people in the area. As for a toffy nosed golf club that impacts very few people, who cares. Go play somewhere else.

                  DW is a star.

I read a bit in the Chorley Guardian a couple of weeks ago where it said they had just over 100 members paying about £620 a year in fees. With an income of only about £65k a year it’s not surprising that the club was up for sale. How do you pay greenkeepers, admin staff, etc out of that and pay for machinery maintenance, etc? Do the members expect DW to fork out £30k, the equivalent of 6 months fees income, so they can use the course for another couple of months? I don’t think so.

Technically speaking its not Dave Whelan closing the golf course and refusing to pay the £30,000 out of his spare change jar.

The football club as a company bought the golf club and have made the decision to close it.

So if morals are coming in to play you have to ask how you would feel about your football club coughing up £30,000 of its own money to please a few golfers.

I am not being funny but we are hardly short of golf courses in Greater Manchester.

It’s always easy to blame the big bad football club. I’ve heard that the bloke who owned it has gone through several companies with different shareholders before he ran out of ways of re-inventing the club and left it pretty broke! Some wonder he needed to sell and there wasn’t enough money left to maintain the place!
