I think he just needs a change to kick on with his career.
He’s struggled for form these last 18 months. A lot of people suggesting it’s because he’s out of position but the dip in form started under Leam when he was still on the right.
Absolutely gutted to be losing him though. He’s never given anything less than 100% for this club. He played when he wasn’t being paid and he didn’t walk away for nothing when he had the opportunity.
Good luck wherever he goes (except when he plays us) and don’t be surprised if he does a Cal Mc and ends up back with us
25 January 2024 at 3:28 pm #201991Hearing what we do about him, and knowing hes wigan through and through, played for free etc, wouldnt surprise me if hes already lined up a move and hes put in a transfer request so the club dont have to pay him the remainder of his contract, or whatever he would be due, as opposed to if the club sold him at their choice, he would be due money by the club. But maybe thats me being naive ..
25 January 2024 at 5:27 pm #201993I think it depends on how much the clubs that are after him value him and if they can gain promotion or stave off relegation with him in their squad.
Personally I say good luck to the lad, at 25 I think it’s time for him to see if he can better himself. I think Rotherham tbh would be a “Snakes & Ladders” move. He’d temporarily go up a Division.
Footballs a very short career and I’d never slag anyone one of our younger players for wanting a move the get more coin and play at a higher level Lang Assguard Tickle Hughes.
I also see Jordan Jones wants to stay after his contract ends. I don’t think that will happen not unless he decides to take a huge pay drop from his reported £8k+ a week.
I’m sure there’s a few Championship clubs who’ll be prepared to but not Danson not a chance and I don’t blame him. This is why I reckon any investment should go straight into the youth set up. If we’re to survive nevermind promotion we need these young lads coming through either to play or sell on.
25 January 2024 at 8:00 pm #201999Huge fan of Callum , 100% at all times and has shook up many a defence with his work rate and tenacity.
A true Latics legend who stayed with the club when times were very bad and I hope he gets the best move he can.25 January 2024 at 10:48 pm #202000I’m in full agreement. Always bust his nuts….played unpaid and didn’t piss off as soon as the shit hit the fan like the 2 snakes who f££££££ off to Knob end. Wigan legend to me and wish him success wherever he ends up.
27 January 2024 at 8:34 am #202007And the two snakes doing what snakes normally do , a slide down the table
27 January 2024 at 8:58 am #202008Maloney talks so well of Magennis been his “senior” player for the younger lads but let’s face it, Lang knows the club better than Maloney as he’s seen both the good and bad times.
Just a shame really he’s decided to leave because on his day the closing down and harassing forces the opposition to give the ball away is just as important as attacking and scoring.Right now we’re quite happy just to let teams piley up to the edge of our box and defend from there. Thank fcuk we’ve a good shot stopper in Tickle or we’d be in the relegation dog fight for sure.
We defend like we’re in the movie “Zulu”. We sit back so deep with little or no chasing or harrasing instead we wait till their on top of us in numbers then try to win it in our box then play it out from there. And what’s more worrying?, I’m probably faster than most of our team so for us to hit them on the counter is bolloks, were the slowest team in the League.
We’d sooner defend our 6 yard box than the centre circle. That’s what Lang was v.g. at, defending from the top end not the bottom, chasing lost causes left to right. Now we rely on Humphrys to do that, the less said the better
27 January 2024 at 12:00 pm #202013Signed for Pompey !
Good luck Callum and thank you for the goals and endless effort. You’ll always be a true Tic
29 January 2024 at 12:31 pm #202047So Lang’s gone and good luck to the lad but my main concern is, do we leave that void/gap open till the summer or try bring someone in?.
I see the guy from Ross County Yan Dhanda has signed a pre agreement to join Hearts.
It concerns me, I personally think Maloneys hands will be tied come the summer with a Steptoe & Son budget.
It will be more like shopping at a food bank nevermind Lidl
29 January 2024 at 1:23 pm #202052Lang gone for undisclosed fee….wtf is that all about ??….Another term for chicken feed ?…At least we still have Magennis!!!….Wtf were people rabbiting on about him having a good game Saturday and m.o.m……easily pleased….penalty then bang average. Never won a header, completely bullied and never looks like getting on the end of anything……Sorry to see Lang go….wish him luck
30 January 2024 at 9:33 pm #202070Didn’t take him long did it.??….18 mins….ffs!!!!
30 January 2024 at 9:50 pm #202071Didn’t take him long did it.??….18 mins….ffs!!!!
We know who we can thank for that don’t we?
The clueless prat we call a manager!
What a fuckin’ shit show.
Fuck the EFL
30 January 2024 at 10:46 pm #202073Not good enough for relegation material…OK for Championship bound side. F%%%%%%% disgrace…..then again some Maloneyites think its a good move. Have they really watched us recently ??? No money, embargo,no board “picture no sound” owner and players potentially leaving or released by the droves…Godo gone….and we let him go …..unf£££££££believable!!!!!
30 January 2024 at 10:57 pm #202074And people are gobbing off on Facebook etc, saying we will sell Tickle for 10 million….
…will we balls. If he goes it’ll be for no more than about 1.5 million with a few supposed ‘add ons’.
Same for Hughes. Why people are so far up the clubs and Maloneys arse, I’ve no idea.
30 January 2024 at 11:37 pm #202075We’re not 100% sure whether it was Maloneys idea or Langs and he felt he’d just ran his course and needed a change. He could have easily not signed an extension and gone for nothing so fair play to him.
I was always in no doubt he wasn’t been used correctly at Wigan abit like Stones he went out on loan and banged a few in.
If there’s one thing he doesn’t lack is effort. I’m now leaning towards Maloney doesn’t have what it takes. Any decent manager would have busted a guy to keep him.
