If we are throwing accusations about was Dave from Skem not swapping shirts on the previous CL forum on Rivals from the Tics to Everton the last time he thought we were going down :o

And it began very much in the same manner slagging all posters off untill he vent that much anger he busted a bloodvessell and scurried off for a while .Only to reappear in different guises a bit like he’s doing now
      :angry-extinguishflame:

No accusation. What I said, Griffy’s said himself. He never went anywhere near the club from 88-97 yet in his word he “supported the club”. How?

the Everton thing was because I had a PM that basically said “f*ck off you scouse ba*tard and support one of your own clubs”.

Laughable, as I’m not scouse. So I changed it to everton being sarcastic. there you go.

        Stop being awkward.

He joined the bandwagon in 1978, because we suddenly had some success, and jumped off when times got hard.

Jumped on again in 1997, when we won the 3rd division. Conveniently missing the hard years of the late 80’s and early to mid 90’s.

I said he was ‘the original JCL’. Capiché?

Never mind capiche or being awkward. You can’t be a JCL if thirty-three years down the line, you’re still watching the same football club. I bet that’s older than three quarters of the posters on this site. The phrase you’re probably looking for is ‘glory hunter’, but surely scruples can be forgiven when you’re a child in 1978, and surely everyone needs a trigger to make them watch a certain football team if there is no family tradition to do so?

Personally, I started going to Springfield Park in 1978 with my dad as an eight year old, but missed a vast majority of games between 1985 and 1996 due to a combination of playing football, playing rugby union, being away at university, then living out of the area.

I didn’t go to Canvey Island, nor was I one of the fifty on the rainy terrace at Lancaster/Runcorn/Carlisle (delete where appropriate), however, I attended games whenever I could, have been to numerous grounds in the UK and Europe watching other teams, but since 1978 have considered myself a Wigan Athletic supporter.

I bet there are many people who post on this site who can recount something similar, but who have still always considered themselves Wigan Athletic supporters despite not having been home and away season in, season out for thirty-odd years.

Fair assessment of probably alot of Wigan fans.I know when my brother started taking me when i was young in the early 80’s there were moments when i lapsed (only in so far as other commitments, still took an interest) as a young teenager and my brother lived in Italy for 10 years and he commenced watching when he came back.

Different supporters have different stories for whatever the reason and fair play to any supporters who have been going non stop for 30 years or so, whether that gives you extra stripes or not i don’t think people care.
