Griff, I don’t claim to be a top supporter who never misses. Like I said I have always followed both teams. But in my opinion it’s a two way street. You pay to watch and be entertained and judging by the gates there are several thousand fans who are doing the same. For what it’s worth I actually gave up my season ticket three years ago when we were still in the prem. As for the punches at old trafford yes it was a truly disgusting act which ruined a great day, paying 120 quid for three tickets I felt cheated to be honest but it doesn’t just happen in rugby. I was at DW when macmanaman nearly knee capped the Newcastle player, when Duncan Ferguson punched scharner, when lee mculloch smashed Chris Morgan in the face and at Springfield park when Graeme Jones butted an opposition player!

But these players who got took out at the knee, was punched in the stomach, was head butted, were they lying prostrate on the ground and defenceless when they took the hit?
Don’t try and compare it to those football incidents, this was by far the worst thing that has happened live on TV in any professional game in this country.
It’s also not uncommon to see rugby league players banging hell out of one another week in week out, whatever turns you on as a fan I suppose.
Rugby Union players take far more shots during play, but just get on with it, yes the odd skirmish happens, but they soon kiss and make up.

Anyway, carry on watching your beloved rugby team, although I suppose you’ll be back watching the tics if they start winning games, you might even get a cheap half season ticket offer.
Keep bobbing back on this forum and we’ll let you know when they hit some form.

      From Matlock to ManU
      What a journey!

Don’t make excuses for that scum egg thug by turning it round to our family game. I for one and many others would watch our club at whatever level and whatever the results and have a moan and groan and be experts in our own way but turn our backs, never!
This is our club and we love it so by all means watch your egg thugs but please don’t come on here and broadcast the fact you want to turn your back because many of us wouldn’t and especially so to turn your back on us to the trespassing parasitic cuckoos.

So by your own admission you are one of the several thousand who have decided not to bother which, by definition, makes you out to be no kind of supporter at all really. Expecting to be entertained at a football match is a basic failing of many so called supporters and further admission that you are only interested in watching your club when the going is good.

I might moan like fuck on here but at least I go to every game and yes I do get behind the team, it’s just so frustrating sometimes but I wouldn’t have it any other way!

You mean you do. Some of support our team through thick and thin. If we just wanted to be entertained do you really think we’d watch Wigan every week?

5 or 6 competitive games a season is not my idea of VFM. I know lads who are warriors season ticket holders, but miss several home games because they will be over with after 15-20 mins.

I’ll admit I hate those type of games but no matter how bored I am at these I’ve never been as bored as I was on Saturday and Tuesday. The fact that I don’t recall the only “highlight” shown on Sky Sports from the Brentford game has led me to believe that I did indeed fall asleep.

Games against the lower sides in rugby league at least normally have the odd full length try or cracking team try to wake you up. Saturday and Tuesday had fuck all.

I’m not turning this into a rugby v football debate because there’s no point, but I’m pretty sure I’d have had more enjoyment from a chess match than our last two games at home and that is the problem that we have at the minute. We have next to no creativity whatsoever.

                Spot On!

Nothing wrong with supporting (going to watch!) both teams but if your not enjoying it then why attend every game.

To all those having ago, hands up who attends every single latics game home and away??

Bet there aint many of you but does that make you any less of a supporter compared to somebody who does!

                  That’s what a supporter does.

I didn’t exactly enjoy division 3 but I still went to every game I could and that was when I was about 10 and could quite easily have stayed home to “support” a Premier League team.

Yes I was bored to tears on Saturday and Tuesday but I’m already counting down the days to the Fulham game at which I’ll probably complain that I’m bored.

Not enjoying it would suggest the team’s on a losing streak or bad run of form so you don’t attend. So you are actually saying that you only enjoy it when we’re winning/on a good run of form. By definition that would qualify some people to say they are bigger supporters than others, the ones that go whichever opponents, whichever division, win, lose or draw, wouldn’t it?

I didn’t enjoy most of the Premier League years because it was horrible to watch us getting beaten most weeks but the desserts were that much sweeter when eventually served (beating the big four one by one, FA Cup etc.). I enjoyed last season far more because the games were closer and tighter and simply better to watch regardless of the result.

I must be a bit of a masochist because I’m enjoying it this season too. I’m enjoying all of the, largely inappropriate, moaning and groaning of the people that sit around me. The same people that berated Jordi for so long wishing he was back etc.

Such is the nature of this league, I reckon we might get something at Derby tomorrow. A goal would do for a start ;)

It’s a case of supporter v spectator – two completely different things.

A supporter is there to support the team, no matter how badly they play. They don’t have to attend every game as people cannot attend games for various reasons (work, family, money, time etc.), but no matter how poorly the team play, they will be back again at the first opportunity.

A spectator is there to watch and be entertained. If they don’t like what’s on show, they don’t attend again.

Pretty much, yes. Certainly every home game, if you can. Not just when it suits you. You think the team only needs “support” on the occasions where you think it’s going to be an entertaining game?

Stick to the rugby, mate. Supporters like you, we don’t really need.

It’s not worth much at all that you’re attending he Fulham game. We all are, obviously.

FWIW my opinion on the categorisations is as follows:

Follower – Doesn’t attend games or watch them on TV but checks the score in the paper the next day. Wouldn’t know a player if he tripped over him.

Fan – Attends the big games, finals etc but watches the rest on TV. First to criticise when things go wrong, first to celebrate when they go right.

Supporter – Attends 99% of home games and as many aways as possible. Watches/listens the games they can’t attend and keeps updated with ongoings at the club whenever possible.

Diehard – Would attend a match at midnight on the moon regardless of work, money, family etc

I don’t like word ‘Fan’ as it is short for fanatic, and suggests someone who is fanatical in their support. Usually those who refer to themselves as ‘a fan’ are antyhing but fanatical in their support.
