I really enjoyed it as well and will watch the rest
3 missed penalties though!3 July 2019 at 4:19 pm #179429It seems the inadequacies of the men’s national team also afflicts that of the women’s, especially the inability to convert penalties.
3 July 2019 at 8:52 pm #179430As womens football has now been placed on an equal footing with the mens (by the media anyway), does it now stand to reason that Steph Houghton will be starring alongside Pearce, Waddle & Southgate in the next pizza advert wearing a bag over her head, and Millie Bright will receive the same reception around the grounds that Beckham and Rooney received after their sendings off in WC matches we lost?
3 July 2019 at 9:51 pm #179431You can give her whatever reception u like when u go and watch them mutty
3 July 2019 at 10:32 pm #179432There is talk of the Premier League taking over the woman’s game now that its on the map. Next time we play the big headed yank cows lets be ready, better set up more professional and embarrass the fookers. The game will grow rapidly if massive investment comes in from the greed league. We could see the Lionesses being the major powerhouse next time the World Cup comes around. The Euros I believe are here in 2021 and we should certainly be aiming to win that.

4 July 2019 at 11:29 am #179434Point is that it seemed ok for the mainstream media to vilify Beckham in 98 and Rooney in 06 for their sendings off. It was ok for an advert to be created post-Euro 96 with Pearce, Waddle and Southgate – all of whom missed penalties in major semi-finals.
Is society more tolerant of failure now than in was in 1990, 1996, 1998 and 2006, or is equal treatment only applicable for positive aspects of life, and failures by women gets swept under the carpet?
In answer to DNRs question, I had no desire to boo or mock Pearce, Waddle, Southgate, Beckham and Rooney for what happened, and I have no desire to boo or mock Houghton or Bright.
I still fail to see why the Premier League should invest money derived from the men’s game in the women’s game – it should succeed or fail on its own merits. If the premier league is so awash with funds, why doesn’t it provide more money for the rest of the mens footballing pyramid – perhaps pay off Bolton’s debts?

Or we could consider football to be football whoever plays it – men, women, boys, girls, disabled, walking footballers etc etc.
Why do we have to label and compartmentalise?
7 July 2019 at 9:32 pm #179495We don’t. The FA can divert as much of its funds as it wants towards minority football projects. I dare say they should be spending almost all of their funds on developing the game, as the professional outfits should be self-funding (and I include the professional women in that category)
However, IIRC, the FA doesn’t own the Premier League – the 20 member clubs all have an equal share, and thus the Premier League decides where the Premier League cash goes, not the FA.

Really good valid point. This compartmentalisation would just be a non goer outside of football with several acts of parliament to prevent it.
Equality and diversity may exist in words within the game but in action it is a million miles away yet8 July 2019 at 12:55 am #179497The media meltdown wud be huge if we did worse at the world cup than the previous tournament
