Announcement to be made at midday. This is due to approach roads and car parks being frozen.
From Matlock to ManU
What a journey!21 December 2009 at 1:05 pm #15703Announcement to be made at midday. This is due to approach roads and car parks being frozen.Oh, I think with Sky money at risk, this is unlikely :D
Anyway, you’re closest. Get out there and get some salt spread ;)
21 December 2009 at 1:19 pm #15704You could well be right.
The council cocked up absolutely big-time (again) over the weekend, when they were too lazy to get out and grit a lot of the area. Coming back through Standish Lower Ground on Saturday night, it really was a case of having to drive at a snails pace, as we were all over the bloody place.
The worst thing is the fact that it had snowed, which then froze like glass. Then on Saturday it rained, which then lay on top of the ice, and again froze. Then it put more snow on it. It’s trecherous in places.Could well be off.
21 December 2009 at 1:39 pm #15705Mind you, if you look at some of the photos on the link below you can see why the elf and safety brigade will want to call it off

21 December 2009 at 1:41 pm #15706All the ground is iced, the pavements and road outside the ground, the turnstyles and all the roads over the bridge, canal, past B&Q, Soccerdome etc are all iced up and I can’t see how any amount of grit is going shift…. even if the Club wanted to fork out for it…
FA Cup Winners 2013, sounds good that

There are several different layers of ice, and even if it thaws during today, it’ll be frozen solid again by game-time* at 8 this evening.
My drive is bad enough. There’s a lump of ice on it, which is about 20cm X 6cm (depth) in size, and it just won’t budge. It’s solid, and is so slippy. Really can’t see this being on.
* Blatant excuse to use a ‘Yank-ism’.
21 December 2009 at 1:52 pm #15709Wouldn’t surprise me if it’s called off looking at them pics, although with the Money on offer from ESPN, will the club try and go for a delay in the kick off to allow more time to arrive?
21 December 2009 at 2:04 pm #15710Not really sure how delaying the kick-off will help. Unless it is delayed until June :(
21 December 2009 at 2:04 pm #15711Where’s loudmouth? Surely he can supply sufficient hot-air to help us in our hour of need.
21 December 2009 at 2:05 pm #15712Where’s loudmouth? Surely he can supply sufficient hot-air to help us in our hour of need.I’ve already got a fiver on him being the first to blame the lack of grit on the Spanish One
21 December 2009 at 2:10 pm #15713Delaying it wouldn’t really help, but lets face it, if it’s a case of the club delaying kickoff and keeping the TV money, or postponing and losing the TV, I’ve got a good idea which they’ll try.
Or, maybe the club should line the ground with noblot fans to allow us all to drive over21 December 2009 at 2:12 pm #15714Where’s loudmouth? Surely he can supply sufficient hot-air to help us in our hour of need.

Probably followed very closely by an ill-judged media appearance by Whelan to say something pointless and ridiculous that makes us look even more stupid than we already do for not being able to get the stadium and its surrounds fit.
21 December 2009 at 2:13 pm #15715Or, maybe the club should line the ground with noblot fans to allow us all to drive over:lol: nice!
21 December 2009 at 2:19 pm #15716Imagine a world where the labour council stop filling their expenses in and get a gritter out to sort these problems !
I guess from the pictures that the club are paving the way for the game being called off.
After the farce of not getting out and gritting roads on Sunday, they need to get their act sorted !
Rubbish council !
21 December 2009 at 2:19 pm #15717…and what price on at least one member of the media mentioning ‘icy conditions’ and ‘slide towards the relegation zone’ in the same sentence?
