Seems to be a few thousand light on last season and a real concern given that the club is still in the higher echelons of the game.
the kids stand seemed very sparse yesterday which has not been the case in recent years so this must be a real worry for the owner of the club and not good news in a week when a few more faces could leave the club.
Shame on the deserters24 August 2014 at 1:31 pm #133057Its hardly surprising – someone on here suggested that ST sales were at the 7,000 level.
Last season’s sales were based on a first European adventure being included, as well as the feel-good factor from the FA Cup win.
This season, the prices were raised, there are 3 fewer games for a ST, and the harsh reality of 2nd tier football is starting to come home, as the last of the cup-winners reach the end of their contracts and start to leave for bigger and better things.
24 August 2014 at 1:55 pm #133058Its no real surprise that attendances are lower than last year, for all the reasons above. Also factor in that its still school holidays and some people will be away.
We’ve moved from the South to the East for a much better view and less kids screaming SHOOT as soon as we cross the half way line! It used to do my head in!!Hopefully a run of good performances from the team will bring people back.
24 August 2014 at 2:06 pm #133061Well some of us just have a moan and groan but we don’t turn our back on Latics.
Some of our fickle fans probably just cant be arsed and after the run in last season and the drab football they have witnessed for the last 5 years its just an easy decision.
Still there is hope and if we keep Callum at the club and give him a free role like yesterday the football on offer will be more palatable.24 August 2014 at 2:24 pm #133064Technically i’m kind of at fault for being one of those not renewing my ST but as i’ve said a few times now, my reason is mainly because of work & my shifts clashing with home games. I have had the pleasure of the first 2 home games but that is it now for me until 1 game in september then november. Hopefully things will improve after the new year & i can get one of those half season ones.
24 August 2014 at 2:25 pm #133065My thoughts always hanker back to that very first premier league game and that full kitted middle aged bloke stood up with the hands behind head ‘ we wuz robbed’ pose – wonder if he still goes ?

Go on, admit it – you were wetting yourself posting this.
25 August 2014 at 11:54 am #133071Not really – your attendances have zero impact on my life. However, if I was the Chief Exec at the DW, I’d be pretty scared:
Reading 12174 (14609) – Down 17%
Blackpool 12113 (19137) – Down 37%
Birmingham (14996)ST Sales approx 7000 (approx 11000) – Down approx 36%
Admitedly the Blackpool attendance last season was artificially inflated by their 4000 travelling support, but even deducting that gives a drop of 20%.
But as “35yrsWAFCbutdoesntgomuchthesedays” says, I’m not obsessed with attendances!

How about writing a book on where the lost 8000 have gone over the last 3 years?

An even better idea is, why don’t you write a book on how two massive Yorkshire rugby league clubs fought out the 2014 Challenge Cup Final, why worriers fans sat at home wearing their Norweb and Ellgren tops, hoping for a Cas win.
The sequel can be about how St Helens won the 2014 League leaders Trophy and Soup or Leek title.
Now run a long you fekin little no mark. :PFrom Matlock to ManU

Saints will probably finish top but I don’t think they’ll win the league. Wigan or Leeds for me.
