Plenty of bigger games to go to get the averages up. Bolton, Blackburn, Wolves etc

We will just have to make more noise to make up the numbers ;)

That’s just it though, they aint doing! It was like a morgue on Saturday just gone!

      You’re not wrong Phil….

We need Plan B. That was debated shouted about enough last night in Scotland.

I’m sure the poster you are aiming your post at can defend himself but what is it exactly you’re looking for? A Latics fan to say that we have a fair weather and fickle section of our fanbase that can’t wait to see Chelsea/Liverpool etc at the DW but don’t find Rotherham as appealing? What do you think that the club could do about it other than accept the fact that the Wigan public are a fairly apathetic lot that probably wouldn’t turn up if it was free entry with a free pie and pint?

No. The thread was started by a latics fan, I offered my opinion as to why the ST take-up has dropped dramatically, then suddenly the rugby-hating fraternity waded in with their standard “slag off rugby/mutty when they haven’t anything better to say” comments.

Bicky is a tool – full stop. But I would have thought the likes of Griff and fatboy would be a bit more grown up than that, and would have contributed to the threat in a more constructive way.[/quote]

Why, when have you ever earned the right to be treated like a grown-up?

Nobody is worried (certainly not scared, which was the word you used) about the slight decline in crowds. It’s no huge surprise and as soon as we start climbing the table – which we will – they will rise. Not dramatically, but back to a reasonable level.

Anyway, I have no idea why any of us are bothering to even indulge a rugby fan on tne subject of crowds.

Why is anybody (Latics fan or not) either surprised or getting worked up about a fall in match going support now that Latics aren’t at as high a level as they have been for most of the last 10 years??
The more successful a team is, the higher its support. The less successful it is their support falls away.
As Mutty is a Sunderland fan take their support as an example. In 2003 when they got relegated from the top flight, their average attendance was nearly 40,000. In 2004 in the Championship it was just over 27,000 – a fall of 13,000 or 32.5%. In their last season in the Championship they averaged 32,000 & in their first season back up they averaged 43,000, a rise of 35.9%.
I’m not slagging them off for it, but it happens
In Bolton’s last top flight season they averaged 23,700. In their first championship season it fell to 18,034 (a fall of 23.9%) & last season it dropped to 16,141 (a further fall of 10.5%)
In comparison, Latics average last season was 21.6% down on the 12/13 season & so far this season it appears to be down further, although it’s only 2 games in, neither of which have been against the more glamourous sides which attract higher attendances.
Latics & their supporters (fair weather or not) are no different to anywhere else
