My take on today. Look like we’ve got a lot of technically gifted footballers, possibly too many of the same type. Only Perkins sticks his foot in. Defensively dodgy and if you want to play football from the back the last player you want there is Barnett. We deffo got away with a point but Caldwell needs time which the knob sat near me obviously decided he wasn’t getting, shouting sack him after an hour if the first home game. Was shouting obscenities at the young right back from Everton. Just what a young lad making his home debut needed. Pray God he’s not a season ticket holder or I’m moving. Had to check the scoreboard to make sure we were not 4 down he thought we were that bad.
17 August 2015 at 3:07 am #144088We should not be giving young lads from Everton or any other frigging club match practice. To spend a month here then piss off back to their own club leaving us the situation of having to bring in players again to gel with the team. Flores played pretty well on Tuesday to be dropped today to make way for loanees on keep fit exercise at our club. Loanees..get shut and play our youngsters who would die for that badge.

17 August 2015 at 5:01 am #144093That reply is just so funny but in reality not so funny. If looked at from an equality and diversity angle to pre-judge someone you do not know on a light hearted football forum and question their mental health is at the level of Malky or Whelan’s comments and you should be banned for making comments that are derogartary and could be discriminatory under the discrimination relations act. In reply though thirty five how the hell can I or anyone else be mental for supporting the players at my club and not players from other clubs. Our players should come first. Support your club 35!!!

They’re nowhere near Everton’s first team and if you read what Caldwell said when they arrived they were brought in on short term loans to give Latics a chance to have an extended look at them both & then decided whether to extend those loans over a longer period.
Personally I see that as a far better move than approaching Everton to see if they had anyone suitable, taking who they recommended for a season & then realising a month down the line that they weren’t suitable.
I think this way of looking at loans has come about as a result of having their fingers burnt a few times with long term loan players over the last couple of seasons.
If the 2 guys from Everton are playing from the start its coz Caldwell thinks that they’re better suited to the positions & system than others who play the same position & not merely to get them fit at the expense of permanent Latics players17 August 2015 at 1:42 pm #144096It was probably the first time in my 37 years of watching latics that i never knew any of the starting 11 bar barnett & mccann. I too had a knob sat behind me who shouted “absolute sh1t” in front of his 5 year old son at the end of the game. IMO it is a brand new team with a brand new manager that needs to be given time to gel. My only concern was the passing back to the keeper which almost nearly ended in a goal to them. Clearly caldwell has obviously learned this from martinez. I agree also with the comment made about the loanees. If these guys were here for the seasin then fine, play them. But, if they are only here for a month then dont play them & give OUR lads the chance to play & gel with the 1st teamers.
Overall i would give us a 6 out of 10. Plenty of reasons to think we will be fine, but still a lot of work needed to be done.17 August 2015 at 2:11 pm #144099It was probably the first time in my 37 years of watching latics that i never knew any of the starting 11 bar barnett & mccann. If the keeper hoofs it out every time he gets it, chances are, around 50% of the time you’ll just be handing it stright to the opposition.
But, if you’re playing it out from the back, the last person you want to give it to is Barnett.
17 August 2015 at 2:34 pm #144103It’s a shame Bolton wanted to off-load the dynamic duo so quickly or we could have done the long term loan thing to check out those two we brought in from Horwich. Thanks Tyldesley for clarifying why we loaned the lads from Everton.

Jonny, ask any North End fans you know what they think of him! I have yet to come across any with positive vibes for the lad, in fact quite a few have actually taken the piss! :)
17 August 2015 at 3:12 pm #144108I wonder if Coventry fans feel the same way about loan players that you do Donny.
17 August 2015 at 3:13 pm #144109It was probably the first time in my 37 years of watching latics that i never knew any of the starting 11 bar barnett & mccann.I know what you mean. About 5 minutes in I had to get the BBC website match page up on my phone & keep it open so that I could keep checking on who the hell was who.
I have to say as well that I was underwhelmed with Reece James – didn’t do anything wrong as such but I just think that for a rumoured £1mill transfer fee that I was expecting a bit more.
Still early days for everyone though

I actually only know 1 Preston Fan! Seriously. To be fair though, he only played half a season at Preston – and that was when he was recovering from injury.
Every Bolton fan I’ve spoken to says if kept fit, he’s a decent player. But the problem is keeping him fit.

He is a known crock and so the question is why did he get a 3 year deal? If I am wrong with the contract details I hold my hand up but I seem to remember 3 years being mentioned! I know contracts aint worth the paper they are written on but if true then that is mad!

If the players do not suit Caldwell’s style, or came here ‘over-rated’ etc then indeed there is (can be) a problem. You have to admit, though, that it is rather late in the window to be experimenting with other teams players. Is Caldwell behind the drag-curve? Only time will tell.
