C’mon Wigan …… Horc, I agree … we were far from rubbish. In fact I thought we played a lot of really nice football. But …. some of those goal line clearances in the second half … well, I got a bit anxious.

18 August 2015 at 2:23 am #144141Where about sin the ground was the so called ‘knob’ sat ?
There were plenty disgruntled supporters around me and they have every right to voice their opinions because the perfoance yesterday wasn’t good and this team doesn’t look like it has a goal in it if you ask me.
I agree would rather see the likes of Flores playing than posing bar stewards from
Premier shit clubs18 August 2015 at 1:25 pm #144152My take on Sundays game…… I should point out Im only 50, so I still have a positive outlook on life unlike so many of the bitter sods that spread their poison around the ground and on the internet forums.I think it could have been the best game of football at home we’ve seen for more than 12 months. Sure the defence was suspect at times, especially when we played ourselves into trouble. Having said that it is very hard for a centre half to cope with an on rushing forward when the ball to him is short or misdirected. If you look back on all the tic-tac that got us into problems, the pass to the defender was careless if not shocking. Barnett is not a ball playing centre half, but he brings other things to the team, it is up to us to not leave hime exposed.
On the whole we kept the ball well, we moved it around well, we were very creative at times. With a better choice of final ball we had the capability to win that game quite easily. I do know we rode our luck at times, but so did Doncaster. Grigg ran his blood to water, he will score us goals, if we have the composure to play the right ball. Composure and understanding will come with time playing together, this is a NEW team.
Bring on Wednesday evening, this team is well drilled, and i believe well coached, it just needs a little time to settle.
I await the abuse from the darkside. Enjoy your football, I know I do !!
In my opinion, that’s a balanced view.
Good post.
18 August 2015 at 2:51 pm #144159OK rather than trying to say things are ‘the best for 12 months’ (we battered Brum 4-0 at the end of August last yr, before the tinkering and fire sale) the reality is we just drew 0-0 with Doncaster and probably should have lost.
It still is a work in progress and there were some fine first half performances and an impressive start in the 2nd half for Shaq, to be built on but we didn’t seem to be learning from our mistakes on Sunday, which worries me, as it did under MM. Still can’t believe how many corners they put on the back stick and won with their 2 on 1. Caldwell was a defender (some would argue…)
If I could change 2 things right now, I would give Grigg some form of support, any form of support, from anyone!
Leave a man up when defending a corner, someone quick.18 August 2015 at 3:16 pm #144162Leave a man up when defending a corner, someone quick. That has been happening since Martinez took over. Four Managers later and it is still happening. The curse of the backroom staff perhaps?
18 August 2015 at 3:28 pm #144166You’re right mate but it does my head in as much as middle lane strollers on the M6
There is no benefit, as it means more of their men in our box and no outlet if cleared. Perhaps it fits in with the philosophy of not wanting to hoof a clearance but as we’ve mostly agreed on, messing about at the back is not our best option.
We seem to be employing a team of midgets, compared to other teams in this division as well, which doesn’t help on corners so maybe that’s in our thinking of getting everyone back. I was expecting Bryan Griffiths to come on as sub on Sunday.

Something we commented on at the game last weekend.
There are at least half a dozen of the squad who look alike: ie. fair-haired, 12 year old dwarves.
(Are you still allowed to use that word?)
