Managers are judged by success fcuk all else so based on that the best manager we’ve ever had was Paul Jewell.
The one crying shame from bygone times is, we never got to see (and he now regrets it) was seeing Ellington Roberts in the Prem.
Back to the new manager, I’m sure Kolo Toure will succeed at Wigan as long as he’s given the time and money. Not only will he get the respect of the players due to his playing career hes apparently a really nice guy, very easy to work with and his training sessions are second to none.
As long as he selects the right people around him and the owners back him in Jan I can’t see us going down.
It’s a huge gamble by the board and owners so give them credit. If it has of been purely money Critchley would be in charge.Let’s not forget:-
No risk, no reward
4 December 2022 at 1:26 pm #197602Agree Paul Jewel was our best ever manager both for the success of double promotions, getting Latics to a cup final and keeping us up.
Along that route it was our most entertaining football by a million miles.
Hopefully Kolo can follow in his footsteps and also into Roberto’s shoes albeit for 5% of his games in charge.4 December 2022 at 5:51 pm #197603I don’t think there was anything wrong with Roberto’s style of football, we just didn’t have the players to do it for most of the time. When the squad was injury free and he could choose his strongest 11 we were a match for anyone and a joy to watch.
I’m crossing every finger and toe that Kolo can work some magic. I hope he gets the support, patience, and most importantly, luck, that every successful manager needs.
7 December 2022 at 1:16 pm #197626I agree with CW on Jewell who for me was our most successful manager although he had arguably the best budget to work with of all other names although if you go off working with b@ll all then it remains Graham Barrow and his first stint for me.
Wish the new manager all the luck in the world at turning it around although i am not expecting a great deal until new year at least when a dip into the coffers will be needed.
Need a few additions and without those i think the season will be a struggle regardless.8 December 2022 at 9:55 pm #197627Don’t expect miracles this Saturday, this project is going to take 2 to 3 transfer windows to get it right. Kolo needs time and patience to bring in the right players.
I hope just hope and pray he’s allowed to bring in 2 or 3 in Jan because with addictions I think he might just have his work cut out with new recruits9 December 2022 at 11:07 pm #197628He needs to show us in 2-3 matches what his intentions are.
Winger, Midfield general who pushes forward and two strikers. Simple. Actually this can start tomorrow.
Line up with 4-2-3-1 and bullshit like that and his intentions will be clear.9 December 2022 at 11:20 pm #197629I predict he goes 4231 or 3511 and plays possession football
10 December 2022 at 6:55 am #197630Get prepared for another shitfest of football if that’s the case.
10 December 2022 at 1:44 pm #197631Absolutely. Every team that doesn’t play 442 are horrible to watch.
10 December 2022 at 3:01 pm #197632First cock up. Shinnie doesn’t start.
10 December 2022 at 3:12 pm #197633I actually agree there but will give him the benefit of the doubt for a few games as we don’t know fitness etc
11 December 2022 at 3:29 pm #197634That was 100% better all round yesterday. Midfielders wanting to get forward none of the tippy tappy stuff at the back for a few minutes before the inevitable big punt upfield.
Great to see flat back 4 just need a decent center half to play alongside Whatmore, Tilt is a disaster on legs. If Nyambe gonna be out for a long time we also need a right back and a decent target man if Wyke is out long term.
I personally would have Shinnie and Cousins in for Naylor and Power but tbf they both did OK yesterday particularly Power who did far more for the midfield cause than he normally does.
That was the same players yesterday that Richardson worked with and boy did things look better against a team with the best home form in the Championship. 👏From Matlock to ManU

13 December 2022 at 7:13 am #197637Actually it makes a change to read posts. It’s a very quiet board these days.
Not even seen one mention of Canada Goose. Swear it’s still blue and white and having a laugh. -
